    Anyone Train With Weapons?

Does anyone train in a martial art that in addition to empty hand fighting, also trains with weapons? Are there certain Arts that train more with weapons than others? A Friend of mine who's into European Martial arts is going to some school in Colorado to train in fencing and Medieval weapons and stuff and it seems like it would be interesting.

I train mainly with a bokken. I also fool around with my Nunchaku, but I gotta be careful when I practice at home (in Canada) because they're illegal.

Ah, we do form work with knives and sticks.
(when I say stick, think 1meter long)

        And also do stick sparring.

Don't think thats what you're talking about though...

I wouldn't mind doing some fencing...that seems like that would be really fun.
I'll make one when I can find one I like.

Rising Pheonix, I'd check the laws about nunchucks, after some digging alot of states that where it was "illegal" to have nunchucks it was perfectly fine to have them as long as you only carred them from your house to your place of practice and then back again, but once you walk around the neighborhood with them it's illegal.

That may be true in the US, but in Canada, they are prohibited under section 84 of the Canadian Criminal Code.

According to that useless piece of legislation, you cannot even have them for practice. Of course, people still practice with them...and some MA stores that I know of carry them secretly, but they are highly illegal.

You are absolutely right about that Rising Phoenix. That nunchuck stuff is still illegal in Canada (and I'm sure in some States in the U.S. as well). I know there are rubber padded nunchucks but I'm not sure the legal ramnification of it in Canada though?

You guys ever see a model of nunchaku that hides itself? Yeah, one guy in high school brought it with him...he was pretty dumb but yeah, I saw it on the bus so he was already on way home so he wouldn't have been caught. Anyway, it's actually hard to spot. It uses that twisting technology so when you face the 2 chained ends together they can twist together and lock, making it look like an art project or something. It is very heavy though.

escrima stick, knife, broadsword, staff. I'm considering getting some bucklers made up for the escrima club (I've already made some prototype body armour) to use with stick and knife.

Used to do staff and broadsword with Kung Fu, both Wushu and Praying Mantis.

With Pencak Silat, we use staffs and trisula's, or Sai as they're called in Japanese. Highly illegal to carry aroudn though.

I have a Katana at home as well, but that one's just for decorating my room. It's so ridiculously sharp, I don't even want to practice with it :)
