    enjoyable, fun training

jus wondering what ppl's martial arts experiences have been like and focus more on the pleasant aspects for once:

tkd always destresses me for one thing, i'd be knee deep in schoolwork, and going to the club to work out for two and a half hours simply leaves ur mind a little bit clear even if ur body's sore. I also liked the camradre of going away to tournaments around the north east, it feels like one of those old school kungfu films on these long drives as u go and challenge other schools...

kendo was one of the most fun thing i've done, because u feel so encouraged to go all out at all the practices, screaming and whacking the other guy in the head as hard as u can is definitely an enjoyable experience, also u learn how to hold a sword without swinging it like a bat.

i've also had the chance to go to a few capoeira club meetings, loved the whole cultural aspect of the whole thing, despite it being kinda...cultish. The singing in portugese, people having fun experimenting with putting ur body into extreme motions.

this semester i hung out with the muay thai club a few times, learning a few tricks with the elbows and knees, its a raw badass feeling when u throw those things...

oh yea and i had the experience of checking out the flushing shaolin temple overseas cus a couple friends of mine trained there in HS. It was weird coming to this backalley in NYC, apparently monks drive toyotas (modern twist for the shaolin temple ive always thought about). the people inside were really nice, the lady looked at us and asked, "uh...kungfu? thats in the back, she points to the statue behind her, "buddha here, kung fu there."

The only reason to train is becuase you find it some how advantageous or enjoyable.

Some people like different things, some get their payoff from winning full contact sparring matches, or even being able to asbsorb a large amount of punsihment without quiting.

Some people are just plain masochistic and continue training because they "enjoy" hating it.

Kendo should be marketed with this slogan from now on.

Yeah, the de-stressing from work is good.
I need it. I was injured last week (compressed sternum[sp?]) and couldn't train. I went bonkers with no outlet.

If I don't come out of practice with at least two new bruises I'm not having fun.
