Hi. You are reading an archive of the legendary Bullshido forums, from 2002-2020. Please visit our NEW and (arguably) improved forums at https://forums.bullshido.net.
(Or don't, this is just an announcement and nobody's holding a gun to your head.)
I try not to bring reality into any of my conversations. I reject your negativity and respond with love:
Lol
Sorry to be dick I know there's no reason you should know Ontario geography, it's just tht reccommending a place in Hamilton for someone in Ottawa is funny.

Gentlemen please, we all know that a sled team would take at least 3-4 days to make that journey. Plus you could be delayed by a spring snow storm which could make the high mountain pass between Ottawa and Hamilton almost impossible. Sheesh!

However, I think I can defend myself. Maybe not as well as some of you warriors but for an average guy I'm fine. Even if you don't like the way FSD sparrs it sure taught me a hell of a lot.
Sorry for giving you a hard time before Enhanced but I really thought you were an instructor. It seemed as though you had been drinking the kool-aid for a long time and one is always suspicious of the nut-huggers.
As for what you said above, I have to tell my experience again. I'm not sure how long you've done FSD, but I assure you that I was a faithful practitioner for over 10 years. I wish I knew who you were because we might have even sparred at one time. Anyway, I was a good sparrer, wasn't afraid of anyone, and could hold my own against many of the sifus. Having said that, I was seriously schooled when I left FSD. I'm a confident fighter and thought that I would have no problem against the "average fighter". However, now I'm not so sure. I have to agree with TKD and tell you that rarely will you be fighting an average fighter. There are people who shoot their mouths off but don't really want to fight you, which will allow yours and my "aggressive fsd ask questions later attitude" capitalize on these individuals. But for those who want to fight/attack/mug you will not be like these others I just mentioned. They will make short work of your FSD techniques. The best thing you've got in your corner is a hard head and hopefully ability to take a lot of punches. For me I would rather be on the giving end and correct my bad habits and philosophy. I believe you would too.
What I'm telling you is I'm glad you've decided to check out other schools because it will help you improve greatly, and also pull the shudders back from your eyes which will allow you to see that you were very naive to think that you'll be fine against the average guy.
I also recommend Ronin in Ottawa. They have very good instructors and fighters to help push you forward.

And if the opponent is on drugs.... All bets are off.
Having scoured this thread and looking at the FSD firewalk video and reading the breaking arrow crap, I think the main selling point of FSD is the 'Strong Mind' accomplish anything type Anthony Robbins / Dr. Phil type sales pitch. The funny thing is no matter how much you have a determined mindset, if your MA skills suck, it just means you get beat up with more enthusiasm on your part.
I remember a sparing class years ago when this 'FSD' type guy was way outclassed yet he refuse to stop (Eye of the Tiger Bullshit ) He just kept getting hit and bleeding more and more and the guy beating the crap out of him wanted to stop but this numb-nuts was too busy refusing to be beaten.
He kept asking for more, entusiatically. Needless to say he ended up KO'ed and fucked up for about three weeks after that with injuries. So as far as this Eye of the Tiger crap goes it only works if you have skills to back it up, and FSD seems to not want people to get any better or learn unless its regulated through them and their limited experience.

Slug
I fought a guy like that once. Apparently I threw him out of the club for being a dick or something equally arbitrary in his mind. Anyway, a nice standing side choke and a long nap in the bushes changed his mind, I think. I didn't really wait around for him to decide to fight me again. I wasn't a complete jerk though, I did mention to the cop outside the parking lot that there was a drunk passed out in the bushes. Maybe he should have thanked me for a nice place to sleep and breakfast in the morning?

Slug
Agreed Slug. The eye of the tiger is a good attribute to have but it doesn't make you immortal. Maybe it allows you to take more punches, but nonetheless they're still punches. You can, and will be KO'd.
There's definitely a lot of Superman ego's floating around in Fang Shen Don't.
