ShadowBeast, just read the posts by GreenHornet, a former Fang Shen Do student out of Montreal. I think he will have already answered your questions. In fact here is a link to his: Total Fang Shen Do Review

Originally posted by shadow beastI have read all the threads on here about this, all i see is people insulting this school cause of things like high price, ect, when the other kung fu schools in my area are also high priced.
i need to ask questions for my self.
youre better off with a boxing club that makes you pay 500$ a year.
for an example I used to pay something around 1200$ including taxes for a year intstruction at FSD (thats without the seminars and including the special discount because I was an "senior student").
now I pay 750$/yr with taxes for kickboxing AND BJJ.. so I got almost half the price for TWO martial arts... theoricaly its like I would be paying 1/4 the price I was paying at FSD ( and I dont have to pay for seminars or any inner circle bullshit ).
by the way telling the facts is not insulting in my dictionnary. If humour was used in the articles / threads its has no other purpose than making the reading a little less boring.

Interesting.
Shadowbeast if you want to try the school it is your money. The 2 articles explain the art very well.
What we do know:
High Priced with hidden fees.
Secluded from other MA.
Saying things that can't be confirmed.
Insulting other Martial Artist styles.
Forced Test Schedules.
Unknown style of martial Arts.
I also doubt that all the other schools in your area are that high priced.
Originally posted by AskariJohnny, based on the information brought forward in this and the other threads, I'm not crazy about recommending someone go and try out the FSD. Especially someone who is already training Judo and BJJ.
You aren't recommending someone try the art you are doing the opposite.

Mr.shadow beast,
What do you have to lose by trying a class? It's free for 1 month and if you don't like it then just come back on here and talk about it, it's pretty simple to me. As for cost that well it is all optional nothing is forced upon you and I think you will have a great time and you will find out for yourself what is real and what is not. Martial arts is about you not about other people and what they think but in the end you will make the decision that you want but at least give it a chance. Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys, ok heres hows it gonna go.
I am gonna give some info about my self, then i am gonna ask questions about the fang shen do school, then im gonna talk about prices.
1: I will not say my name, but i am 6'5, 275 pounds, i have done japanese jiu jitsu, shotokan karate, boxing, and muay thai/kick boxing(not for long)
I was doing 3, yes 3 martial arts at once back when i was 17-18, in the best shape of my life, 215 pounds.
I then could not handle all the injuries i was getting, so i stopped all the martial arts, and met my girlfriend(3 years next month i am with her)
so i got lazy, went up to 320 pounds from playing games all day(mmorpgs, lol)
about 8 months ago i got fed up of being lazy, so i decided to get back into body building, so far i am back down to 275 pounds, i have been doing kick boxing for a few weeks to help me get in shape, but i want to do an actuall martial art, cause that helped me the most, i looked into kajukenbo(i know a teacher) and many types of kung fu, then i found the fang shen do website.
Now for my questions.
1: I hate places that NEED either a blank cheque, or a credit card for payments, are the FSD schools like that?
2: even though i am a big, mean looking guy, i really dont like to spar, not when i first start learning anyway, in the past i would not spar for a good 8 months, I look at it as I am paying all the money not to get hurt while sparring, but just to learn, so is it true that they dont force you to spar unless you want to at the fsd schools? thats what i was told, only spar if you want to.
3: I was told about a payment option after evaluation, depending on finantial(sp) standing, i dont make tons of money, i was told they work out a payment plan, this true?
Now for prices.
What i payed in the past.
shotokan karate: 50$ a month
Japanese jiu jitsu: 90$ a month
Boxing: 90$ a month
kick boxing: 70$ a month
The kajukenbo teacher i know charges 60$ a month for his classes, but i was told he is very rough and people get hurt when they first join.
I found another kung fu schools, it teaches white crane, and another kind(wing chun i think?) downtown also, but i dont know how that school is, cause the fsd school told me you are not forced into sparring, which i like, i think this other kung fu school is like 1500$ a year, not sure im gonna call and ask, lol.
also, i was told everything is included in the fsd membership, belts, tests, uniform, book, cd, posters, lol everything, what if i pay, then when test time comes i am told to pay for that too? i would say no, i payed already.
thats all for now, let me know, talk to you guys soon.

shadow beast - if you're looking for a good school in Montreal, check out Philip Gelinas' place: http://www.montrealmartialarts.com/
They offer Kali, Muay Thai, BJJ, Judo, JKD and some other stuff all out of the same location. I took a few classes there while visiting Montreal years ago, and it's a good place.
