As for whether or not this "trapping" "works" in t3h d34dly str33t, I suppose it depends on the situation. What people forget, is these are not "finishing" moves. Heck, I know an old man who is very tall and very fast--still--and he has made the arm-grab a move he has used "in t3h str33t." Basically, the opponent's natural reaction is to pause as the surprise.
Then the man beats the hell out of him. No, "grab my wrist" defenses do not really work.
Anyways, it is like steping on someone's foot. It creates a "shock" in the opponent's initiative. No more, no less.
Sooooo . . . I suppose someone could try something . . . and you could "trap" an arm . . . but then you better do something--and a lot of somethings.
Now, that "justification" aside, is it worth learning this? In isolation, no. Returning to my "old man," he can teach you how to grab an arm which works against beginners and bar-room idiots . . . but with out the "something else" it is useless.
