Noob. JP claims lineage from a "former student of Bruce Lee". If said lineage is the basics of WCD, then I think the claims are more than a little misleading. Some people put a lot of stock in lineage.

But, I agree, there are bigger issues.

I can only speak from my expereinces and those of friends of mine who trained with JP. This was in the late 80's to early 90's.

Really he just seems to be a guy who is delusional and people who train under him are scared of him, he doesn't want his students to cross train because they will see that he is really not that good and a lot of what he is selling is bunk.

One of the recent problems that occurred in FSD was the bestowing of the title "sifu" upon many people. I don't claim to be an expert in linguistics and have not gone about educating myself on this title. When I started in FSD i believe there were only five or six people who had EARNED the title of sifu and by my recollection they all had black sashes. Everyone knew these guys as the people with the most skill/knowledge of the system. All the other instructors were generally referred to by their first names. A little less than two years ago all the school owners were all of a sudden given the name "sifu". This caused a problem for me and for a number of other students that I spoke with. I was told that the title simply meant "teacher" so it was proper for all head instructors/owners to have the title. At the time I called bullshit among my peers. To me it simply caused confusion with respect to who knew what. There were green sashes, brown sashes, and I believe that there was at least one blue sash who had the title "sifu". One instructor in particular was quite arrogant about the title and insisted people refer to him properly by that title whether in the school or outside of the school. It bothered me then and it bothers me now.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else had difficulty accessing the other FSD thread?

An other thing, I don't believe any of the "sifus" claim to be experts in WCD. If anything they claim to be experts in FSD. But I've not heard any of them proclaim to be masters or experts in anything other than JP and his #1 son Martin who claim to be experts in quite a few things.

Just to clarrify. I was asking the Sifu's, who have posted here, to defend JP's lineage claims. I was not saying that the Sifu's have claimed to be WCD certified. Sorry about the confusion.

I'm considering emailing Sifu Scott personally, maybe he's just having trouble with uploading? I have seen the newspaper clipping (it's framed on the wall) and the poster myself, but I do know some of the instructors aren't 'internet savvy'.

Question: What is decent 'proof' of the MMA-style bouts? Scanned poster/newspaper article? More? Anything specific? We should probably lay out what's expected.

N00b, why not suggest that he have the materials put on the FSD site. Then, he can just post links to them. The image galleries here, as far as I can tell, are still hosed.

As part of the recent maintenance for the site the URL for the article changed. If you had a bookmark for it, you'll get an error message now. If you go to the home page and drill down to it, though, it's still there.

Well guys, I'll man up and admit I'm not fond of the idea of going in and saying I have issues. About the only thing that I can handle is talking to Scott because he's remotely rational. I had previously been confident but the reactions of some of the sifus has caused me second thoughts. I hate to think I'm not up to confronting them personally, because I like them as people, but I also have seen the reactions here and I'm not overly wanting to cause trouble.

The thing people seem to forget is I KNOW these people and they have been really nice people to me.

At any rate, I believe in the contest and I'm going to offer my assistance in providing proof of combat.

Isn't it great when you school intimidates you enough to not ask some simple questions? And you still think they are NICE people... walk in there and tell them your quitting and see exactly how NICE they are when you stop giving them your money.

And its amazing the amount of 'Sifus' you have in rural Canada one would think it was in China :)

Once again these do not 'sound' like good people, good people encourage healthy dialogue, crap you can ask Dan Inosanto anything and get an actual answer...he wont just trail off and stare at you. Everything I have read in this thread about 'intimidation' reeks of weak willed people needing someone to TELL them what to do... someone like a blue sash 'Sifu' backed by the Clan
