    Fang Shen Do

I've been talking to some friends lately that have had negative experience with a club in Ottawa called Feng Shen Do. I've wandered around this site a bit on the topic and done some reading about it but really dont have all the information I think I need to fully discuss the topic. There certainly are a lot of claims out there by its practicioners about how effective it is, but non ever seem to back things up.

On first reading it smells a bit of hero worship around an instructor that never trains: Jacques Patinaud, and some very baseless claims of street effectiveness.

The strangest Feng Shen Do encounter I have ever had was with one member who claimed his instructor had turned down fighting in the UFC because it wasnt for an immediate title shot, but was still getting ready for the call. Now admittedly this conversation was begun because I saw this guy with a Feng Shen Do jacket and overheard him talking about how his instructor was too dangerous for the UFC.

So at this point from a Bullshido standpoint, I only know about the leader worship and the baseless claims of fighting MMA. Given that it is a Wing Chun derivetive I can see the strange leader worship being a big part of it, given the lineage wars amoung the WC crowd. Oh and I saw an add on TV for breaking arrows with your neck, now that was a bit more then normally strange.

I'm wondering if forum members have had any experience with this group and what further information could be added to it?

Well known mcdojo. Do a search. Also known as "Patanaude's Kung Fu." Demands extortionate rates for wing chun/stickfighting hybrid. Followers display cultist mentality, as you're sure to find out when they find your thread.

Hello this is my first post on this board. I've looked at a lot of other posts so I doubt what I have to say will be offensive but if it is too bad. Anyone who says their instructor or whoever is too deadly to compete is just full of it.
I've been down the road of secret techniques and that nonsense and if it sounds like bull****, or in this case bullshido it probably is.
Most of the time these claims are made by people to scared to get in the ring and have their art challenged. So I'd just ignore the guy. :wanim

Someone actually came on this forum with the name Fang Shen Do before changing it. He studied at a school in Montreal and denounced their training in a long review.

I might have set him up with a BJJ instructor; I honestly forget.

I'm actually a former student of Fang Shen Do and I just yesterday submitted a lengthy article on my experiences with that organization (I imagine it's in queue for review before being posted). I'm happy to share my experiences and answer any questions people might have, but I'd rather hold off until the article appears (I don't want to steal my own thunder, now, do I?:eusa_danc).

Shawarma, do you have personal experience there?

Dreadnought, I think I found the old thread comments to a user named "Feng Shen Do" Old Thread Looks like people encouraged him to try out GAMMA, good choice there. What does he post as now?

Stringfellow, looking forward to your article, care to give us a peak?

Fuck no. I wouldn't get within 300 feet of Fang Shen Do unless dragged by wild horses. If I could get a restraining order against FSD people posting on the same internet as me, I would.

for more propagan, sorry, I mean information, check www.fangshendo.com - see video for blatant WC ripoff.

FSD cultist 'tard commando should be here any minute now....

                  Hi Shawarma,
I guess they'll see the backlink to bullshido on their website records and come visit. If their syntax and grammer is up to the usual flame war level, that will provide the answer to my main questions.

I have also recently had a chance to watch the FSD videos on grappling. Perhaps I will save my comments on until the nuthuggers arrive?

                    Just found these pics

There is another website associated with this whole thing:
www.firewalkcanada.com It uses the Matt Furey marketing which I dont really mind, marketing in general doesnt bother me when the product is usefull, I am guessing in this case that the product isnt very good. But this site is where I found this pic:

I must say that there is money in teaching bullshido if he has built a place like this one. How about the FSD logo at the front of the room inside:

                          Thanks CdnRonin,
Some nuggets in case it disappears:
Doing the math on this last one, he made 27,000 from that one seminar alone.

That article must be several years old, as I don't remember seeing any movies or playing any baseball. One of the things I talk about in my article is how the rank system now has "stripes" between each sash (e.g. after your yellow-sash, you'll test for your yellow-sash-blue-stripe, and then your blue-sash). This effectively doubles the number of tests each student must do, and therefore also doubles the income from tests. I didn't realize that Jacques took 25% of all tests at all schools. He must be raking it in.

Askari: I basically deal with three aspects of FSD in my article: the art itself, the cult-like behavior of the organization, and the money aspect of it all.

Does anyone know how long it typically takes for an article to appear once submitted and who reviews them before they get posted? Maybe I can gently poke someone to see if it can't appear sooner rather than later.

I'll be interested to see what the nuthuggers have to say in response.

Stringfellow, looking forward to the article. In reference to the not taking a shot at a UFC match, is there hard contact sparring of any sort?
