this reminds me of my assistant intsructor. (actually its quite funny because he is a higher rank than i am) in my Tae Kwon Do class.

He is allways offering to teach me grappling and Ninjitsu. He says he is really good in Jiu Jitsu.

I take a BJJ class with a BJJ blackbelt as a teacher.

he says he can teach me stuff beyond the elements of what this guy teaches me.

I later find out that this guy is self taught in "jiu Jitsu" and "ninjitsu"

I only had taken a month of BJJ at the time and i allready knew it was BULLSHIT.

So I grab him, and we roll.

He kicks my ass. Not severely, but consistently. Gets a pin, an (admittedly judo-illegal) guillotine neck crank and position for a triangle choke within two five minute sessions of randori (time ended with the choke yet to start being applied).

    I'm a bit miffed.

It turns out that in the interval since I last saw him, he's been training BJJ.

Not funny. Not funny at all.

    Haha ha!

That could almost be me. I went on to my friends about Wing Chun when I didn't know any better and believed the hype on the websites. I was actually going start it. Well, I took BJJ (mostly because of Bullshido) instead and I'm loving it.

I did some schoolboy wrestling with my cousin. He's a lot stronger than me even though I've got some weight on him, he mocked me about WC stuff when he pinned me well. We'll see who pins/subs who next time, rah rah rah!

I dunno but in the interest of science I will donate y brain to science in hope that further generations may know more about this affliction.

I believe it's the "secrets techniques".

Besides, we do do less than 50% ne-waza, and a fair amount of that's turtle stuff, so even though I'm a guard judoka, chances are he's had more teaching from the guard than I have.

Or maybe he just learns faster. All I can say for sure is that he was the better man on the day.
Yeah, it's probably that he trains probably 90% ground and you don't. Next time he tries anything fancy, punch him in the face. That'll put him in his place.

Awesome thread. + goes to you just for admitting that when he came back he handled you. That's freaking fantastic. Annoying while he's doing it, maybe, but we can read between the lines, and the respect is there.

And it's a good feeling to respect someone today you couldn't respect yesterday.

Yeah, the Scottish Open I mentioned earlier had tickled his fancy.

BTW, I have a (Finnish, like me) friend who studies at the university in Edinbourgh and he's always telling everybody to visit. Apparently it's a nice town with plenty of overpriced pubs. Oh, SAY it isn't so-oo!!!

No, seriously though, if this isn't gonna inspire some BJJ-nutriding then I don't know what is - and JUST as I was about to take up some judo...BTW, how was his conditioning, had he toughened up? Was his manly physique still pasty and white? Was there a significant difference in weight/muscle? And - unless it reads in your profile and I seem like a complete idiot - how long have you been doing judo?

    Oh, so many questions.
He'd stopped whining about things hurting, which was good. I didn't take a good look at him in the changing rooms, so can't really answer the physique question. Weight/muscle was fairly even. He might have had an edge, but not much.

And that was ne-waza. He did get thrown about a bit by a teenage brown belt who's about the size of a small ten-year-old. But this is a scarily good small teenage brown belt, who'd own me too, and he did really quite well in stand-up as far as takedown defence went, adopting a very upright classic judo posture. Apparently he trained judo at some point when younger, but his throwing consisted mainly of countering people who overcommitted to an imperfect throw. Not that that's a bad thing, I'd have been happy with countering some of the people he fought.
