Bullshido or not? Check this out.

Apparently the owner of the school has been posting to one of the MMA forums defending his art and telling people that BJJ and other submission art doesnt work in the streets.

    Discuss.

Is there a reason you linked to the Photos page? A lot of the people on that page look like total buffons who belong at Jenny Craig.

I'll let the page speak for itself about that picture: "Shodai Soke Bruce D. Calkins". :tongue6: Heh, what immediately comes to mind is "Friar Tuck".

    Deadly assistant instructor.

    Assistant "Lil Dragons" instructor.

Apparently they've devised a defense against ground fighting. Defacating upon the ground one fights upon forces the BJJ practicioner to change his game. It's brilliant, really.

        Street Smart Martial Arts
        Nothing Fancy For The Ring

Nothing fancy, like an overweight shaolin cosplayer who dosen't have a shaved head.

        Wisdom is offered on
        Monday and Thursday Nights
        from 6pm to 9pm
Oh, good, wisdom. I think I'll go pick some up.

        (image attached below)

        (from http://www.goldendragondojo.homestea...renshibio.html )

Look at his supporting foot. He can't even do that low stance correctly with the foot flat; he has to balance on the ball of his foot.

Here are some choice bits of his bio:

Soke stayed with Sifu Soong until 1970 and reached the rank of Red Sash in Shaolin Kung-Fu and the 5 animal styles. Soke's favorites were the Crane, Snake, Monkey, Mantis and Toad. His love of the invincible Toad Style lead Soke to train in Iron Shirt Qi-Gung. A mystical style that leaves the body almost like iron. Able to receive the hardest blows with little or no effect.
This style of defense was important to Soke because he didn't like the fighting styles that lead to hurting your opponent. With Iron shirt he could get hit and not have to hit back. Later he learned other ways of doing the same thing.
In 1974 Soke was in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and trained under Master instructor Tamio Kamura at the "Way of Life" Dojo. This Dojo Trained in Aikido. A new way to not hurt. Soke was impressed by the use of the others movements to defend instead of hard contact defense. Soke Trained here until 1975 when he was awarded his 1st degree black in this style.
In November of 1975 Soke found himself in Garlin Tx. Here he met Master David Frost of the Black Star Ninjitsu Academy. This was a live in academy and Soke lived and trained at the academy for until August of 1976.
Black Star Ninjitsu Academy? Like, Black Star Ninja, the villian from American Ninja 1!?!?!?! Oh god..... :5shocking

I mean, why not just open up a kung fu school called "Han's Evil Island Kungfu"?

In 1995 Soke met and taught with Sensei Robert Koch of Warrior Self Defense. A Kenpo Instructor in the I.K.K.A. system of Ed Parker's Kenpo Karate. In all of my years of training I would have to say that... "My time spent with Sensei Robert Koch was the best Martial Arts Experience of my life." "Robert Koch is one of the best trained Martial Artist I have ever had the honor of training with and i feel his traning increased my ability and speed 100%."
Great! So in other words, it wasn't until 10 years ago that he ran into a kempo instructor who could actually, like, make him exercise. This was a better "Martial Arts Experience" than all that kungfu, all that Black Star Ninjitsu, and all that crap he went into great detail about before!

So, what's the forum this guy was posting on?

After looking at these images I now no longer think that Tub Girl is disturbing.

Way to go, Friar Tuck. I'm now desensitized (sp?).

BLACK STAR NINJA! I wonder if he was trained by Tadashi Yamashita playing the role of Black Star Ninja?

Everyone can train to feel safe on the street. With our "Kick Above the Waist, is a Waste" attitude and the simple movements, this system is right for everyone.

Yeah, that's helpful when the "soke" almost certainly can't kick above the waist anyway in the first place.

I know a lot of people get interedted in the martial arts by watching movies, but I never thought Beverly Hills Ninja would be one of them....

You can't make people smarter. You can expose them to information, but your responsibility stops there.

Why don't you send him an email to join our forum and defend his Eye Gouging and Nut kicking art. Its unbelievable that him saying that ground fighting is useless in the streets.

He actually posted at www.subfighter.com Lot of people bashed him for that.
