    Belt Testing Fees

What fees do you pay for promotions (belt or otherwise)?

Just wondering what the going rates are in 2004.

In Tracy's Kenpo and Shootfighting there are no promotion fees (not even for the belt itself).

They charge me nothing, just the price of the belt. Which like what 5$ or something.

I believe it was something like 350 for my blackbelt? 50ish for my kyu ranks before that. (Canadian dollars, of course.)

Thai place I'm at now only charges for competitions (no ranks, obviously), and those aren't for the school, they're for the organization.

My testing fees were 30$ for every test and 100$ for the Black Belt. That covered the time spent for the test, the belt, and the certificate. Not too bad, I don't think. Especially considering paying for the time of the evaluators.

Testings for ranks below black are $35 and my school. Black belt testings are around $100.

In other threads about this topic, I've said I don't mind paying, and I don't. Testing isn't during normal class time and head instructor has to pay 10 black belts for 4 hours to judge the test. Yeah the certificate and belt cost money, but what I really pay for is a quality evaluation of my skills.

And let's face it, the money has to come from somewhere. If there isn't a fee to test, all it likely means are dues are higher for everyone, even people not interested in advancing in rank.

                              Pun,

Agreed. You get what you pay for (one way or another)...so if you really do pay nothing, guess what you're probably getting.
