    Any opinions on sambo shoes?

    After breaking a toe a few months ago, I've been considering wearing wrestling shoes for BJJ/Judo/kickboxing, but I heard too many stories from people who have blown out knees and ankles because of the friction from the shoes. I decided I value my knees more than my toes, so I'm still barefoot.

    This morning, though, I saw someone wearing sambo shoes (sambofki), which look ideal because they were more like leather socks with a suede sole.

    Can anyone who's used these give me an opinion on them?

      Are you speaking against the party?

      We have one guy who did train in sambo shoes but recently he stopped wearing them and has been training exclusively barefoot. Any other shoes worn are wrestling shoes by the shoe wearing BJJ players/kickboxers/etc

          I'm sure they don't come in any other color.

            bunyip. one of my training partners bought a pair of 'Ultimate Grappling Shoes' from Scott Sonnon's company a couple of years ago. His footwork greatly improved after he got em.

            He's worn a couple of different makes of wrestling shoe (Asics and Adidas), and has worn the UGS in sub-wrestling and MMA competition. He says there's no comparison...UGS rule.

            Scott offers great customer service as well. Dunno if he's still selling the UGS or not, though, You can check it out at;

                Those shoes are good but they also make footlocks almost impossible to escape. Go barefoot in grappling because if someone gets a hold of your heel they have alot more torque when you're wearing shoe.

                    Uhm, he is not talking about normal shoes.
                    They way they are set up they are more of a sock...they add nothing to little to a leg lock.
                    And that's when I figured out that tears couldn't make somebody who was dead alive again. There's another thing to learn about tears, they can't make somebody who doesn't love you any more love you again. It's the same with prayers. I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad.

                      The UGS don't give up anything to bare-foot sensitivity. You can feel the lock coming and you're still able to do the things you'd normally do bare-foot to escape. If someone's good with their footlocks, it doesn't matter if you're wearing a shoe or not once they get tight.

                      The UGS provide a happy medium between bare-foot and shoes in terms of sensitivity, support/protection, and traction.

                              I was actually looking at those, too. But they cost about 50% more than sambo shoes, so I thought I'd go cheap and make sure I didn't hate shoes. I might change my mind. What material is the sole made out of?
