I think the reason you see the love affair is because a lot of people seem to have a love affair with bashing WC, then WC people try to defend. Why not just ignore it if it bothers you?

No-one really knows how wing chun came about, the most likely argument seems to be it was developed for guerrilla(sp?) warfare against the oppressive regieme of the time, of course this doesnt fit in well with the little red book so the government of today push the "young bride" story.

I believe that it was originally quite a form-laden system (as is most kung fu) but yip man greatly refined what was already a comparatively simple system into one of the most "effective" kung fu styles of today. Wing Chun now has the task of again evolving to meet modern requirements, some of us believe its up to that, you obviously dont.

Of course "pure wing chun" isnt practical, even if you discount its age its very specialised and has no more chance than any other "pure" style. Most of the wing chun people here study other arts to both give a new perspective on what they know and fill in the gaps in their game.

    Stoogejitsu,
There is a MMA competition in Brisbane next week, the XFC.

Stupid theories and ignorance aren't limited to just one art.

maybe it will curtail the Canadian problem we are having.

Oh, to answer the question, Wing Chun is Bruce Lee's "other" gift to the Martial Arts world.

Johnny S, hey some of my team is fighting an nhb in australia next week, I'm not sure what part, do you know anything about any events around your area? Just curious....and as for my wc bitching, i'm just tired of hearing half the responses being wing chun will solve this problem, or wc is the answer, more of a vent than a serious thread.

Why is it so many people on this forum seem to get a hard on for Wing Chun? I mean it doesn't make sense, "pure" wc fighters get owned in competition with kickboxers, grapplers, etc., yet people still believe that there evading the center line, and trapping drills will make them the ultimate fighting force. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Has the whole world gone mad???!!!!!!!!!! P.S. forgive the whining and ranting, just felt like I had to at the time or I was going to explode.
