    The secret

    Hi guys.

A friend of me recommended me to read this book:

I have read about halfway. I am on page 99 now. The book is about self help and the law of attraction. It is basically filled to the rim with quotes of a bunch of morons.

The message is that you attract what ever you think about often. It don't really sounds so dumb to begin with but then they start to explain it with stupid interpretations of quantum physics. Some of my friends actually believe this stuff though. It worries me.

It is also on dvd. some parts of the dvd is on youtube. The stupidity is unbearable. Here is the link to the youtube clip. YouTube - The Secret: 1st 20 minutes

Just start the clip halfway and let the lol begin. Joe Vitale is a real character o_O

OMG. This Scheise is very popular in Israel, unfortunately. I saw a movie based on this crap featuring a deaf reporter (if I remember correctly). For someone with a degree in Physics watching those Quantum Physics twisted interpretations almost made me break the TV.

Power of positive thinking+retard physics=most of the new age crap of the last 40 years. It's just new labels on old rubbish.

(with maybe a smidgen of useful self programming underneath)

Damn, I saw bit but it's gone now. If there is a god, he would probably think it just that such people pay phrost for the privelege of being mocked on his site.

I haven't seen/read the whole thing, but part of that clip reminds me of what my mom always says: "Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it." It also made me want to throw up somewhat less than when I was forced to watch What the Bleep?

@ H Murdock- Are you thinking of What the Bleep? That was the one with JZ Knight, Fred Alan Wolf, Candace Pert, etc. that had the deaf photographer as the protagonist.

Edit: Judging from the other posts, it probably made me want to throw up slightly less because I didn't make it though the entire clip.

Also, an affirmative thought has been scientifically proven to be hundreds of times more powerful than a negative one? What? How would you measure that?

A friend's wife is totally into this thing and I got into a major argument with her over the "science" described in the secret. This is the same lady who argues that homeopathy is scientifically proven and that the studies proving its efficacy are suppressed by big pharma.

Someone needs to sue them for purposefully misrepresenting scientific theories and misleading people.

so evil that they willingly poison millions upon millions of children, but also that they are able to make a profit from doing so.

Totally agree. I had a friend working as an assistant on big pharm sponsored vaccine research project back in the early 90s. The pharm company eventually pulled funding for the research, and the researchers suspected that the motivation was that producing drugs to treat the illness in question was a better moneymaker than funding relatively expensive research to develop a vaccine. The vaccine would have essentially killed a bunch of the company's product lines.

Secret. That's the name of my schlong.

Strong enough for a man; but made for a woman.

Now, go ahead and be skeptical about that.

The Secret is basically Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill repackaged and all sense in the book is removed. Hill states that dedication/desire/willpower/etc will drive you to obtain/attain your goals.

There is no mystical part of it, it's the power of the mind honed to work towards an end goal.

That's it. You focus on something you want, you work hard to achieve it, you get it--because you've put in the fucking hard work consistently and with persistence to get it.

Fucking Rhonda Bryne, I hate her.

To me, The Secret is watered down philosophy. The concepts it teaches are centuries old. On a very basic level, yes positive thinking is better for you in that your body won't produce as many stress hormones etc that can take a toll on you after a while. The whole "Secret" part of it though is basically what Austin Osman Spare already outlined in his books on Chaos Magic where planting ideas in your subconscious mind and then forgetting about them can help change your habits without having to repeat some stupid affirmation every day. I think it's silly they try to explain everything with one law - the law of attraction. Ya, there's such thing as sympathetic vibration and misery loves company, and upbeat people usually attract other upbeat people, but if you get mugged, maybe you just happened to be around a thief.
