    Transferring VHS to a PC

How the hell do I do it? I wanna put up a couple of clips that aren't on the net, that I think are cool. So you'll be rewarded for telling me how.

Er, actually I'm wondering what physical connection I need to plug the VCR into my computer.

The capture cards and devices like Dazzle usually have either a Video/Audio1 input or Audio 2 that allow a USB or firewire type interface. Some have Svdieo as well.

You can get some cheapo devices for 75 bucks or less that use USB.....some capture cards can range from 50 to 400 bucks depending on what you want. The next card I will get the ATI AllinWonder 9500 or something like that.

You really want one that encodes into Mpeg on the fly instead of AVI, AVI takes a ton of space depending on what you are trying to do. Check tigerdirect.com for some solutions...be prepared to spend between 50 -90 bucks for the cheaper devices.

Dazzle can be from 99 to 299 I believe.

If your videocamera supports it (digital) you can use your existing firewire card to import video as long as you have the right software. I still have problems with mine though. I usually import to mgeg 1 and go from there.

I have problems importing in 720 size versus 320 or so...does anyone experience this?

I capture using ATI all in wonder 8500, analog model. I also run a dual 1 Ghz processor(s) windows machine. I think you need a card with capabilities, lots of ram, and a fast processing machine to generate fine dvd quality clips and movies.

I don't know about the usb based capture devices, I never used them.

I have a program called videowave that has a thing in the program that allows you to put your edited videos from your computer to a VHS tape. I have never been able to make it work though.

My settings might be bad, or it may be bunk, I dunno.

Same here..I have tried a couple of things but not much luck either by firewire or the TV out mechanism. I have been able to put TV out on the TV and record the playback using the VCR connected to the TV. Long story...thank goodness for Radio Shack.

Yep, that sounds like the simplest way to do it.

Nah it's cool. I won't put the shit up. I'd rather spend my 75 bucks on a mat.
