I liked what I saw, but bear in mind I was kicked out 45 minutes in for having loud and visible orgasms nonstop throughout the movie.

      Also HOLY FUCKING SHIT YES

I haven't seen the movie yet.**

I'm sort of with fistingkittens / Wastrel. A movie like this could only be made in America or Japan (you'd just have to add tentacle rape and giant robots). It's a testament to how nihilistic and empty our culture can be (and usually is): all style and a void of form, no substance.
Worse, it continues the trend of misrepresenting martial arts (or put it this way: using them as a petty tool to achieve superficial, retarded ends). I certainly don't care about how kung fu or japanese weapons are shown/pissed on in film, because I consider kung fu, kendo, etc. fairly dead arts anyway. Who the hell can take the nimble mongoose stance or some moron with a $99.00 Home Shopping Network katana seriously (given that you're a martial artist and you know your shit)? It's just that imagine in 50 years a stupified version of say muay thai becomes the new trend in film action sequences. It's not inconcievable: kung fu "evolved" into wire fu, audiences are spoiled and will want something new in the future. I'm going to have nightmares about wire muay thai. The foundation is already set with all this cardio kickboxing bullshit. Film should get its superficial whoring ass hands off of martial arts unless they're going to treat the subject half-decently such as in Bourne Identity. It perpetuates lies that give martial artists a bad name and help set the stage for mcdojos. Although TKD managed to become utter shit (in terms of self-defense) without the aid of film.
Back to the cultural comment, enough with the pointless fucking gratuitous sex and/or violence. If you're going to do it and use it for a meaningful end (e.g. American Psycho, Clockwork Orange, etc.) that's fine. It can make your message more powerful. But just doing it for the sake of doing it is bullshit and a testament to the shallowness of man. It could be argued that there is a time for shallowness, but go drink some Stoli and get some chicks for that. Don't waste millions of dollars, corrupt young minds, and make older ones even more retarded.

**hopefully if i get around to seeing this movie i won't actually think it's good or else this whole argument is essentially fucked

I've been waiting for it for months now.

              Donnie Yen!
              Sonny Chiba!

And you guys have no idea what a video nerd Tarantino is. He is the Grandmaster or trashy exploitation movie trivia. I expect 90% of the damn thing is an homage.

                Omar,

Are you still in LA or back in the land of the slanty eyed little bastards?

The movie isn't just about samurai/Kung Fu STyle fighting, it's a Tarantino take and 9Chambers, you haven't seen it yet...

"I heard somewhere the girl with the ball and chain was in Battle Royale. Gonna have to see that someday." Yeah she is I believe...

9chambers Uma Therman, Lucy Liu etc etc can do something that Chacky Chan and Chuck Norris can't do so well - act, and it's what also makes this movie great: .

                      Oh crap.

I was as wrong as wrong can be

and I apologize for my wrongness.

Please forgive me for being the wrongest person alive.

Kill Bill was perfect. Uma was perfect. Lucy was perfect. Gordon Liu and the crazy 88 were so perfect. The artwork was perfect. It was one of the best movies ever, definately Quintin's best film. It was very fun. I enjoyed it very much. Don't buy a drink when you go to this movie. You'll regret it, especially at the end with the water and everything. This movie was freaking good. It made me happy. - Oh, I don't recommend it for kids or people who mind blood, gore and limbs getting hacked off left and right.
...And I just read this, <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> It's good that one of the first people to reply who has actually gone to see it, liked it.

Osiris, I'm sure the RZA did some of the awesome sound effects, like the Bruce Lee film style sounds etc (the siren sounds at the beggining, before Uma has her first fight.)

How about the beggining [in Black and White]? Truely awesome.

                      oh and PizDoff:

"...and you want to what? blow him?"

If it would get me a part in one of his movies, then yes <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

                          Yes, very correct.

*SPOILER* The Anime was beautiful too, truely saddening when COTTONMOUTH (as a child) saw her parents being killed right next to her as she was hiding under the bed...

Can you think of anyone (caucasian) who could be THE martial arts star today?
Yeah Uma Thurman is just a "Silly caucasian girl who likes to play with samurai swords..." <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Okay, tell ya what then. You write a script full of deep meaningful soul-searching violence. Make it entertaining and a joy to look at, full of beautifully-composed shots and kickass fight scenes.

Now I know you're saying "But I'm not a screenwriter. That's not my job. Hollywood needs to stop funding shit." Well, that's fine, but if Kill Bill is as superficial and empty as you say--devoid of substance--then you should have no problems at all providing us with something superior.

And then you can take your script and give it an enema of existential angst and you can have it full of weeping single mothers and shots of people walking down railroad tracks and gay sex and people watching TV and everything else that passes for "art" these days. You can pack it full of speeches where people gaze off into teh distance and say enlightening things, and you can even pull an Altman and have a bunch of unrelated stories all come together in the end. And the theme of your movie can be "relationships". It'll be about the interpersonal relationships people will have and the ties which make us strong. Because that too is not at all annoying or superficial.

Art is only art when it's about wailing and gnashing of teeth. Art has nothing to do with entertainment or aesthetic value. Art needs to have deep subtexts and involve moody piano music.

Art must also be shot on DV.

                                Wanker.
