          Just like people's English can suck. It's very simple really.

          You just answered your own question. If "osu" is pronounced "oos", then it doesn't sound like "oosii", which has a whole second syllable.

          That would be like saying "cat" sounds a lot like "catatonic".

          Actually, here's where you're actually right. The word "oos" is singular for one mustache hair. So that might work.
