Trump abandoned Syrian Kurds to ethnic slaughter. He's trying to do the same thing in Afghanistan, against the advice of his top strategic counsel.

First, it would make Putin so very happy, that would be spun as an anti-American legacy (even though we invaded the country with good cause). Putin finally gets to say "They kicked the US out too", even if it was the CiC's decision./

There's some sweaty speculation that Trump is sore that he lost so much of the military vote, so he is pandering to that sector for 2024. You can see the tweet now, "I BROUGHT ALL THE TROOPS HOME, DEMOCRATS HATED YOU, WHO LOVES YOU MORE THAN ME BABY?? #MAGA".

Then cue up 9/11 Part Deux when all the sleeper cells creep back into the caves of the Safed Koh and plot for 2025.

Who would believe Biden wants to play it safe, globally? Almost like he's calm and collected like a President is supposed to be.

No one wants to keep a force there indefinitely, it’s pointless and impossible. The whole point of the peace talks is to allow American and NATO forces to leave the place in some form of stability.

Trump’s fuck up is jumping the gun regarding ‘when’ troops are being pulled out as opposed to ‘if’. Ironically it helped the peace talks as the Taliban, feeling like they were making progress, honoured the cease fire (by their standards anyway). Now Biden wants to keep troops on, they’re ramping up the attacks again. This is down to luck rather than judgement on Trump’s part, as it usually is with him. He quite rightly deserves contempt from the military. Issuing orders from twitter doesn’t go down well with senior officers and tour-dodging doesn’t go down well at all. I’m not surprised he lost so many votes there.

Either way after US/NATO pull out, the Taliban will eventually take control again anyway (there’s only Kabul left) so Putin will spin this however he likes. Biden is completely unproven in his competency regarding conflict so it will be interesting to see how he plays this, wether he will chose to re-engage when they do eventually take full control of the country or just leave it be.
