China, fired a freaking laser at a P8A

Just in case you still don't get how hot the tensions in the South China Sea are.
Of the single rapier fight between valiant men, having both skill, he that is the best wrestler, or if neither of them can wrestle, the strongest man most commonly kills the other, or leaves him at his mercy.

"Weapons grade" but only detected by sensors?

Defensive weapon, eh? Nothing like the USN offensive lasers we've discussed before, I'm guessing.

              That's last summer's news. Remember?

How many threads on naval laser weapons do you have here, Joe?

I have at least 2. Somewhere.

I was wondering if this is nothing more than Chinese laser tracking system.

Fits the definition of "military grade", but...so what?

                Hyperbolic news?

Hyperbole of it is how much you read into it. Its in violation of treaties, and it is antagonistic.
My statement is a bit on the hyperbolic side but this is the sort of shit that causes small reckless behaviors that lead to small escalations that keep adding up over time.

So basically, China is starting to step up to what the Russians do every other week.

                    "Exercises". Ha.

No. They were doing the same type of stuff in the South China Sea with the U.S. Navy in the early 90’s.

I know this because I was there

Not to mention, the ODIN was just deployed on the USS Dewey just days ago.

Droneswatting lasers. This is SDF-1 level robotech.

No wonder the PRC is jealous.

This of course is the smallest of escalations that add up. Especially when one side actually had the equipment but the other side has been propaganding so long that they forget that the other side really does have the shit they say.
Now I am not saying their is anything to worry about, just that tensions are higher than normal people understand.

The Chinese have several thousand years of war poetry to wage against America's.

The funny thing about tension is it's right up in your face, until you relax and realize the tensions around you.

The difference between laser "dazzler" and "terminator" is paper thin.
