    THE Film Thread

    General film discussion here.

    Dochter: What about Mulholland Drive?

"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - for ever."
Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the fuck I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

We already have a favorite films thread. But thanks.

I thought Mulholland Drive was outright awful!!! I like David Lynch but I think he missed the mark on that one. Lost Highway and Blue Velvet were much much better.

(I appreciated the gratuitous nudity and lesbian sex though).
At least your head is in the right place.

I have had a strange and rocky relationship with David Lynch films. Mulholland Drive...heck there is no plot. Plot has nothing to do with it. It's surrealism and dadaism. I look on it as an entirely cinema-aesthetic film. Nothing "writerly", that could be interpreted as being imported from literature, in it at all. Given what I understood the film to be-a lush, sensual cinema experience rather than a "story"-I thought it was a lot of fun. Of course, if Lynch comes along and says, "The X symbolizes Y which transcends the Z." then I'll be happy to use my weirding module on him...and any other Lynchies who do the same. That's the worst thing about Lynchies...the obession with symbolism and hidden meaning. Yuck.

                Blue Velvet was outstanding.

                    Yup, Mulholland Drive sucked balls.
A bunch of Lynch fans asked me what I thought of it. My answer was 'its bullshit that people pretend they like in order to appear intelligent'.

They all kind of went silent.
I at least expected some argument on it.

Hey, one of the worst movies I HAVE EVER SEEN...
                      ......DANCER IN THE DARK!!!

                      What a load of horsheshit!

The Britney Spears movie is the kind of bullshit that people pretend they like in order to appear intelligent...
