    I Hope This Isn't True

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/correspondent/3028585.stm

Private Jessica Lynch became an icon of the war, and the story of her capture by the Iraqis and her rescue by US special forces became one of the great patriotic moments of the conflict.

But her story is one of the most stunning pieces of news management ever conceived.

There was no [sign of] shooting, no bullet inside her body, no stab wound

Private Lynch, a 19-year-old army clerk from Palestine, West Virginia, was captured when her company took a wrong turning just outside Nasiriya and was ambushed.

Nine of her comrades were killed and Private Lynch was taken to the local hospital, which at the time was swarming with Fedayeen. Eight days later US special forces stormed the hospital, capturing the "dramatic" events on a night vision camera.

They were said to have come under fire from inside and outside the building, but they made it to Lynch and whisked her away by helicopter.

Reports claimed that she had stab and bullet wounds and that she had been slapped about on her hospital bed and interrogated.

But Iraqi doctors in Nasiriya say they provided the best treatment they could for the soldier in the midst of war. She was assigned the only specialist bed in the hospital and one of only two nurses on the floor.

"I examined her, I saw she had a broken arm, a broken thigh and a dislocated ankle," said Dr Harith a-Houssona, who looked after her.

"There was no [sign of] shooting, no bullet inside her body, no stab wound - only road traffic accident. They want to distort the picture. I don't know why they think there is some benefit in saying she has a bullet injury."

Witnesses told us that the special forces knew that the Iraqi military had fled a day before they swooped on the hospital.

"We were surprised. Why do this? There was no military, there were no soldiers in the hospital," said Dr Anmar Uday, who worked at the hospital.

"It was like a Hollywood film. They cried 'go, go, go', with guns and blanks without bullets, blanks and the sound of explosions. They made a show for the American attack on the hospital - action movies like Sylvester Stallone or Jackie Chan."

There was one more twist. Two days before the snatch squad arrived, Harith had arranged to deliver Jessica to the Americans in an ambulance.

But as the ambulance, with Private Lynch inside, approached a checkpoint American troops opened fire, forcing it to flee back to the hospital. The Americans had almost killed their prize catch.

When footage of the rescue was released, General Vincent Brooks, US spokesman in Doha, said: "Some brave souls put their lives on the line to make this happen, loyal to a creed that they know that they'll never leave a fallen comrade."

The American strategy was to ensure the right television footage by using embedded reporters and images from their own cameras, editing the film themselves.

The Pentagon had been influenced by Hollywood producers of reality TV and action movies, notably the man behind Black Hawk Down, Jerry Bruckheimer.

Bruckheimer advised the Pentagon on the primetime television series "Profiles from the Front Line", that followed US forces in Afghanistan in 2001. That approached was taken on and developed on the field of battle in Iraq.

As for Private Lynch, her status as cult hero is stronger than ever. Internet auction sites list Jessica Lynch items, from an oil painting with an opening bid of $200 to a $5 "America Loves Jessica Lynch" fridge magnet.

But doctors now say she has no recollection of the whole episode and probably never will.

Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the fuck I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

But WMD seem to be bullshit, the statue coming down was complete staged bullshit, and now I'm just not too surprised.

CNN.com had an article that speculate that the reports of her being stabbed/shot were incorrect and that she just had broken bones, of course, it wasn't up there that long.

          what a fucking joke........
though i WOULDN't be surprised if it were true.....

"Private Lynch has lost her memory of her rescue"
"Dr Uday was surprised by the manner of the rescue"
"Dr a-Houssona found no bullet wounds"

well previous to this i didn't like the way the "story" was being told on various news publications.....sensationalism if you ask me

and the funniest thing is: Where is Ossama? Where is Saddam?
i don't like either of them and i'd wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on these guys but I also don't like the way America is attempting to wrongly present themselves as the crusading heroes....

            Pat,
Good article in the May 12 New Yorker on the split between the CIA, who thought the WMD reports were exaggerated, and the Office of Special Plans at the Pentagon, which appears to be in love with everything Amhed Chalabi tells them. No surprise, given that Chalabi has lied about the CIA in the past, that they would discount him. And no surprise that he might be willing to cook up just about any story that might bring him to power in Iraq.

Well, do not hold your breath. Look into history, specially the history of the US and you will find quite a few of distorded events manipulated by the government and presented to the media in order to create an image or impact at a certain critical moment. That is called manipullation of the masses. Control of the public opinion through a distordet image.
And sometimes there were also some important pieces of informations that will prevent some events or military conflicts, lets put it that way, and were retained long enough in secret as to serve the purposes of the administration rulling at the time.
Now it was promissed to us that the WMD were to be found at the time the war in Iraq begun, it took 3 weeks, the war ended. Two weeks ago aprox. the US forces were pulling out of Iraq and still our President promise that the WMD will be found...I wonder how???
Did they found big connections or any relevants issues related to the incidents of 9/11??
Remember that what happened on 9/11/2001 was, apparently, what initiatted this "war against terrorism".
I remember Bush's words...he said that it will be a long war and we will find them and those that harbor them will also be punished.
Well, a couple of weeks ago it was all over the news that in an amateur video of wedding reception TWO years before 9/11 in Hamburg, Germany, one of the plane hijackers and another Al Quaeda cell member not identified were discussing about the plan!!!.
It's not a secret that cells of Al Quaeda are still over Europe and specially in Germany.
We attacked Iraq for what?...Shall we attack Germany, at least there is a reason behind the mushy logic of this loony texan president!!
              What do you think Asia?

The Iraqi's killed the others in the US party. Let's not forget that. Saddam's army was evil. Let's not forget this. No fucking conspiracy by the US Gov. can justify this. The deed was done and was necessary.

As far as I'm concerned all the rest of that nonsense pales in comparison to this:

"It was like a Hollywood film. They cried 'go, go, go', with guns and blanks without bullets, blanks and the sound of explosions. They made a show for the American attack on the hospital - action movies like Sylvester Stallone or Jackie Chan."

The possibility of this being true is very unpleasant.

Yes, it's good we went in there and cleaned up.
No, I don't care whether there are WMDs.

BUT, Iraq is not the only country with propaganda. I don't trust our own news sources either. Anything for a good story...

Hey,if we go after all the evil dictators in the world,it was a matter of moral compromise to do so loooong time ago against Castro in Cuba....and is only 90 miles away from Key West, not on the other side of the world.
I don't bite that hook. You're blind, man. It's all about $$$$$, power, the control of oil. That is the reason of the war on Iraq. I tell you if there were not oil on Iraq's land, the US will not care about that country at all.
That is what happens with Cuba and a lot of others countries. There is no economic interest at risk or strategic military landmark at risk since the Cold War is over, they don't care.
Now is about the control of sources and yes, to hit the terrorist positions, but that, my man, is not done with full waged wars...no, the only way to deal and eliminate terrorist cells, groups and training camps is with :
                        -Good military intelligency
                        -Special Operations Groups
-Act quick and destroy them all.
A war in a country that harbor terrorist is useless. It cause only damage to others, confussion and the terrorists are never found.

Well Saddam seemed to be an asshole, but his army? I saw posters for sale, one of them said God Bless Our Troops. I thought that we should get one that says God Curse Their Troops. Our nineteen year old marines are good, their nineteen year old troops are evil. Right.
