    Wing Chun Sparring

Finally I found a clip of wing chun people sparring. The action is....but I notice that once the person who is getting beat forgets what to do, they grab and go down. I think they were just working on the battle punches, since that is what most of them did. A few hooks, uppercuts, and elbows. But manly pure rabbit punching. So much I couldn't stop laughing. They all must be beginners. Oh yeah here is the link: http://www.wt-muc.de/movie/fightclub.htm

I just don't get it... forgive my ignorance but every time I see Wing chun it looks like 2 people standing toe to toe bitch slapping each other.

Well, they certainly don't seem impressive, but just the fact that they are hitting each other is a huge step up from what we usually see.

The video is funny to a point and distressing the rest of the way. These guys either don't know what to do because they haven't been taught, or simply forgot during the mix. The best thing is to stick to the basics. Chain punching is fine when used setup another move or something. Or to overwhelm somebody to sleep if your "connecting". From what my sifu has said time and time again, is that chain punching is the first thing taught and is good for the average person on the street. How can this sifu be respected if he is not teaching his students wing chun instead of how to be human fans?

I fail to see the necessity of headgear in those fights.

If windmills were to come to life and battle each other, that is what it would look like.

Well, It was better than 99% of wc videos and better than 90% of throwdown footage.
It also is better than I would probably look doing standup.

That being said, is there anything at all on those punches?

This is very true, but I think that the point of contention here is that this was supposed to be a demonstration of WC sparring in a positive light, in which case it is not at all impressive. Naturally, the excuse can be made that the persons involved were beginners. Well, that might be true and it might require a closer look, but I'm fairly certain there was some kind of badass music dubbed over and some 'Fight Club' lines in the background. I can't check again at the moment because I can't view most video at work. Badass that, certainly, was not.
