What do you think about the modern jujutsu styles?

What are your opinions or experiences about the modern (less than 20 years old) jujutsu styles that have been founded by western people (like Juko-ryu, et. al.)?

(I'm not suggesting all JuJitsu is bollucks, but the stuff i learnt in that club was complete bollucks)

Why was it bollucks?

The reason I'm asking is because I've just started studying Hokutoryu Ju-jutsu, which is a modern Finnish jujutsu style based largely on juko-ryu jujutsu, kyokushinkai karate, kickboxing and judo among other arts. It is a full contact bare knuckle style which allows everything except face punches, groin hits and neck/spine attacks (in tournament rules, of course such stuff is practiced for self defence but not in full contact sparring). I feel it seems like a good style, it has all the goodies (kyokushin/thai type round shin kick, full contact sparring, all ranges, including standing and ground grappling and so on), but I'd like to hear from other people how they feel about these modern styles.

I'm in a modern style and it kicks ass.
We cover pretty much everything, striking, ground, weapons. At its core its very much still Jiu-Jitsu, buts it's more practical.

Since he hasn't come by with a comment yet, sure.

"Hokuto", I'm assuming, is the same "Hokuto" as in "Hokutoshin-ken", the style of martial arts used by the hero of "Fist of the North Star", the anime of which Asia just bought the entire DVD set.

Oh, . Well, the word is apparently the same (the jujutsu style is named after The Northern Star because it was developed here way up north) but I would guess the manga hero isn't using this particular style of martial arts.

Kirves: It was bollux because it taught ineffective crap badly, none of the stuff worked if your opponent actually fought back, and after learning some judo and aikido, i was able to defeat people who had purple belts when i hadn't even got past white belt yet...

Kirves: Its called Jishin-do jiu-jitsu, its a canadian style with a couple schools across the country.
sorry but dont have a webpage for you.

I think its kinda foolish trying to rate all modern Jiu-jitsu. Seeing how there were so many different schools in Japan at its height, there's bound to be a wide range of quality.

Yeah, of course it's no use trying to rate them all in one basket, but it is nice to hear opinions on some of them. I suppose you feel the Canadian style is good? Can you tell me about it, what things you like about it?
