Went to the Eddy Millis seminar (BJJ)

I had asked here @ Millis (http://bullshido.net/forums/showthre...021#post587021) and went anyway as I wanted my sixteen year old son to have some more exposure to grappling. It cost $50 pre paid and $70 at the door. I just watched as I stupidly re-injured myself trying to throw a judoka two weeks ago (somehow I forgot his grappling/clinching skills sparring as he has almost NO standup. He countered, I got nailed).

The seminar went surpisingly well. It was organised by a local American Kenpo school. One of their guys from here now lives in California and works out at Millis's Shark Tank and he set the rules: no gis, no belts - wear t-shirt and shorts (cool guys had rash guard), and leave the ego at the door. He gave a short talk to let it be known that everyone, all ages and all levels were hear to learn and work out and have fun. Millis conducted the seminar with a couple guys helping. He did spend more of his time with the advanced people than the n00bs, and since my kid was a n00b I wanted more attention, but he made contact with everyone (about 30 participated). A small group from the Mushin school (active in the local mma scene in Utah) down in Bountiful came up, and they were the best there and had all the basic sweeps and such down, so Millis worked with them on more advanced stuff and some good standup practice. Other than them, everyone else stayed on the ground.

Eddy Millis himself was very smooth and fit. He showed a friendly attitude and tried to help people understand; at one point getting all the beginners together and went back a couple steps to more basic techniques as he saw too many making mistakes. All in all I think I'll join the next seminar they are planning here in three months.
