How long have you been doing MA ?

Now we have had a few of these, BUT, this one has a twist !

Take how many classes and competitions you have had, you can include seminars too if you like, take into account how many hours and how many days that equals and voila, you have a time frame.

    example:
    3 x 1.5 hours per week for 3 years = 234 hours or 9.75 days.

Now, you CAN'T count watching DVD's, tapes, reading books or anything STRICLTY theoritical and NON physical.

    1.5 hours per class x 4.5 classes per week x 4 weeks per month x 7 months = 189 hours total

    + 2 fights X 5 minutes = 10 competition minutes

Should I count teaching? Or no?

              Highschool Judo
1 school year 1x 2hr per week, just enough for me to recognize techniques in a book years later.

              McShotokan Krotty
              2 years 2x 45min per week
              4 years 3x 90min per week
Maybe an hour of total ring time (including improperly-done Kata)
Got my "black belt" here, and taught many hours of underpaid class time.

              University Judo
              2 terms 2x 2hr per week

              Shotokan Karate (current)
              0.75 years 2x 60min per week
This includes the time I spent in the traditional Shotokan class and my ongoing time in the full-contact class.

              0.75 years 3-4x 90min per week

                1 hour class x 3 times per week x 72 weeks = 216 hours = 9 Days

                BJJ
                1.5 hour class x 3 times per week x 20 weeks = 90 hours = 3.75 Days

I have missed many classes but many times I escape work early and go to the day classes (which aren't counted above) so it is probably close to accurate.

                0 siminars, so far
Due to a deal that is in the works, I should, from now on, be going to all close Inosanto siminars for free. :icon_sunn

                0 competitions, so far
My first BJJ tournament is coming up in Louisville. (I think in April or May)

My first 5 years translates down to a conservative 48.1 days. That's classes only.

Lets make sure we are all understanding the calculations:
                          1 year = 365 days = 8760 hrs of training.

                            Regular Hours FLC:
                            2 x 2 hrs per week for 4 years = 832 hrs
                            2 X 3 hrs per week for 1 year = 312 hrs

                            Regular Hours JJJ:
                            1 X 2 hrs per week for 2 months = 16 hrs

Are you only including instructional/competition hours and not time spent hitting the bag, doing kata, or sparring with the buds?
