    Gi sizes?

Most size charts for jiu-jitsu gi's give criteria for height and weight for gi size. However, these charts seem to assume that people who are about 6'0" to 6'1" are in the neighborhood of 180-200 lbs. Unfortunately, I am about 6'1" and yet I have a 30" waist and weigh about 155 lbs.

Thus, when I bought my gi (a Kagi size 5, the one recommended by their size chart for my height), it was very baggy on me (I shrunk the hell out of it in the dryer, which helped). Is there anyone with my approximate dimensions who could recommend a proper gi size?

I would recommend buying a smaller GI and sewing extensions on the legs and arms.
    Perhaps a nice crushed velvet.
I would go with this effect for the sleeves:

"It does not matter who the master is. It does not matter what the face looks like. The masters are of the Qimen school of qigong/meditation which is related to Zen. The master wears white robes, and the predecessor master wears bright gold robes. The qimen school travels the univers and is not restricted to what paradise they live in. It has many masters" -Serious Harm

Every dogi brand sizes different. Best thing is to contact the supplier and talk to someone. Also, once you find a brand that works, stick with them. Toraki does a good job at custom fits.

        Good luck

my atama gi was kinda the same way i got the a-3 top but it was listed at 5,10 to 6,0 170-180 lbs. and my pants a-4 are 6,0 to 6,2 180-200 lbs. im 6'2 180 and my pants where baggy and my gi was just right. i guess i need new pants. best bet is pick the brand most of the guys grapple with at your gym and ask them about sizes and what they think.
          Eduardo "Why'd you stop."

Me "I was kicked in the head by the guys sparring next to me."

Eduardo "Ino what happened but i didnt say you could stop."

Me "Um.. I guess I keep going."

Eduardo "You dont stop until i say stop, you dont get tired until i say your tired, keep going."

lol only difference is that all the guys at my gym use Koral Kimonos stuff, and I really don't think I'm ready to be paying that much for a gi.

Thanks for everyone's input, I appreciate it.

              (it's actually a Yahoo store)

Keiko Raca is pretty good...and this is only slightly more than Atamas.

Dude, those Koral gis are SWEET though. Beautifully made, light, just awesome.

And if you think you have problems with fitting a gi, try being a woman. Almost every size is too big SOMEWHERE.

I'm 6'2" and 155 lbs. with a 30" waist. I wear an Atama A-2, and everything fits pretty well. The pant bottoms are a little high, but no one cares or notices.

Look in the Phone Book under Karate & Other Martial Arts (Supplies)

Then go try them on, and get them fitted :)

I wasn't sure whether I should have started a new thread on this or not. So I didn't.
I just recently bought a kikskin single weave gi. I shrunk it and it fits well now. My question is, if i wash it and dry it again, will it shrink more? or has it reached its permanent size now?

The high end gis are usually pre shrunk. Though some do shrink again.

God, I feel fat with those stats you guys put up. I'm 6 foot at 250lbs. A size 6 atama fits me perfect.

And yeah, buy your stuff pre-shrunk, as it won't have to shrink.
