President Carter booted them all, or nearly so.
The issue is a federal judge gave the DHS an explicit order that was ignored. And this isn't the first time that it's happening. This is symptomatic of a greater rot that is eating away at the pillars of our system.

JFK ignored the courts on Cuban deportations.

      None of this is new.

The subpoenas have to be issued in order to be ignored.

Congress issued over 70 that the administration refused to comply with iirc.

You're really not following this as close as you think you are.

Addendum: There is some question as to whether the judge issued the stay in time to stop the deportation (technically denied entry). If that is not the case then DHS owes an explanation of why they didn't stop it. I agree that DHS needs to demonstrate that their timeline of events was accurate and that the deportation really did occur within minutes of the stay.

That said, I can't help but notice that the furor over this died down when the same official further explained the student was denied entry over family ties to Hezbollah and IRGC. That accounting is of course suspect due to the reporting coming from Fox News, but other outlets do seem to have decided there isn't much of a story there anymore. I haven't been paying attention to what Democrats have said about the issue since that statement was made, so maybe more will come of the story either way.

Well technically there was a consequence to at least one of JFK's actions....

Well, nobody gets a pass forever for breaking promises to mob members, or poking that bear.

You're not copping to a belief in a conspiracy theory are you?

That's the mother of bad conspiracies theories right there only out-shined slightly by the 9/11 truthers.

I grew up in the Philadelphia region in the 70's and 80's.

Mob whackings were a regular event.

I see no reason to think that the mob would not facilitate or help arrange the assassination of a mob entangled President that went sideways on them after being elected.

Especially back then, when the mob pretty much acted and seemed to think they were a second government, capable of assisting the actual government in war, post war, and espionage activities, and took their own sense of position and importance in the world pretty seriously.

Except Lee Harvey Oswald had no mob ties and was a socialist moron. He bungled another murder attempt right before JFK, they tracked the gun straight to him and his friends and wife all said it was totally in line with his reckless character and beliefs.

No mafia necessary. He had means, motive and history. He had a job where the shooting happened. He was a shiftless loser who blamed the world for his own misery and had grandiose opinions of himself.

I think the most likely conspiracy is some KGB acting on their own initiative put him up to it since he was still in contact with them.
