Originally posted by Dung Beatles View PostThat's very informative, thanks. I've always wanted to visit Vietnam and Cambodia to scope out their beaches for a nice little retirement shack in the middle of nowhere. My plan has always been to become a rural hermit near some sandy beach with clean water.
Edit: I'm aware that they do not allow foreigners to buy land but they will allow you to buy an apartment or put up a small business IIRC."Preparing mentally, the most important thing is, if you aren't doing it for the love of it, then don't do it." - Benny Urquidez

The war was brutal for the Southern Vietnamese.
You can act morally superior but talk to the refugees about the horrors being inflected on them by the Vietcong.

Those that benefited from it and those that did not.

We go to Chinese new year with them at the Vietnamese church every year and have a lot of Vietnamese friends. I've not talked to a single one who is not grateful for the US help and the opportunity that the US still gives them.
But what do they know, they were just born there and lived through it.

Fuck Goodlum, are you just trolling? Making bad jokes? Or do you really mean what you post? Study some history, at least use Google. Kermit Roosevelt was sharp, he ignored the cease and desist order from Langley when their regime change coup was failing, and hired street gangs to demonstrate and riot. It worked. He was smart, he thought in the terms of American Exceptialism. That this created a horrible mess of death, torture, and an unstable world order was not in his mind. We should learn from history.
Darius l, the Great, according to some accounts, got six buddies to go to the palace, and being nobles, were let in with their swords and knives. So they slaughtered King Guamana, maybe a few others, and said, we are running this show, boys! Persia, and soon Egypt, Macedonia, etc was theirs.

You could benefit by going to the Middle East, like l have, or at least expand your reading.
Here are some links, even some quoting Israeli scholars who aren’t right wing assholes. Not that you will read anything like this.

It must be nice to blame the ills of a society based on the actions of the CIA, tio just write off the Iranians culpability in the events of their revolution. To place the blame so squarely on the actions of the boogie men at Langley. As you pointed out the CIA did all that with 100k.
Perhaps the CIA helped the revolution out, but if you really think about it they provided hardly anything in material support.

If a society can fall so easily it's going to fall.
It's cool though ignore the internal pressures of a country, one with 10s of millions of people, and be like wow those wizards at the CIA used their magic to take a totally a ok society and turn it into a hell hole.
