It's also interesting that it went off radar at 8,000 feet, because 8,000 feet also happens to be the maximum cabin altitude pressure maintained in commercial airliners. So, it's entirely possible that if there was some "event" beforehand and they tried to turn back, it was too late due to hypoxia, etc. Losing cabin pressure at that altitude opens up severe health risks to the passengers and crew.

Dunno how "remote" the terrain is but it looks like it was definitely within 2 miles or so of mountains, which would make it possible for someone up there to easily hit a jet.

The Iranians have little reason to down a plane leaving their territory.
Anyone Canadian passport or not could have been disappeared in other ways pretty easily.
