Iran just shot down a ukranian 737 just after takeoff from the Tehran Airport. All 180 passengers are dead. Brits and Canuks were on board as well as Ukranians. This is going to get worse.

Call me simple minded but it still blows my mind that countries that are on the opposite sides of the world are attacking each other and arguing about stuff. Just blows my mind.


What breaks my heart is when I imagine my son or nephew laying in the sand, bleeding out, looking up into the sky as life fades away, while we are all watching a bunch of chicks fight for a guy on TV, or binge watching Netflix.

Yep. Before my family moved to Japan, years ago, my great grandfather sat my dad down and lectured him about how you can't trust any "Japs". He refused to talk to us on the phone while we were there because they were listening to him on the phone, it went on an on. All I knew was how similar all my Japanese friends were, how hot Japanese women are, and how much I loved their culture. I think my great grandfather was a biased, but I also take into account that he was a pilot in the navy stationed at Pearle Harbor on 12/07/41.

I have a different view.

I would be delighted for the EU to have their own army.

And to pay for their own defense.

I am tired of the United States paying several times what the EU countries like France or Germany or other NA/SA countries like Canada pays into NATO.

Let Europe pay for its own "defense" from their trading partners Russia, and China, etc, etc.

The problem is not that the EU isnt paying its way it is that NATO members do not pay their way or pull their weight.

The solution therefore is not to create a new army but simply to pay what they have committed.

If they have an EU army they are effectively saying that they are unwilling to pay into their own military for their individual nations defense and to satisfy NATO obligations but will put it into this other thing that they can then use whenever bypassing their domestic parliaments is necessary.

Current reporting, as of 5 mins ago, was mechanical failure. But, as a technologist, I do have a hard time believing in unrelated coincidence. Especially when emotions are running high, I think it's fair to give alternate explanations a fair amount of scrutiny.

Well they immediately rushed to secure all the black boxes and aren't sharing them. Combine that with the timing...

Where are you getting that Iran shot down the plane? Also why would they shoot down a plane carrying 82 Iranians?

There are people implying that it might of been and experts stating that the wreckage is inconsistent with a missile strike.

Given the time it happened it wouldn't surprise me if a trigger happy Iranian shat himself and gave the order but id say without the benefit of looking at the passenger list and their perhaps relevance to the conflict that it would most likely have been a very tragic accident by a soldier/soldiers who were on extremely high alert in case the US when ape shit and responded imidiatly to the Iranian attacks a few hours prior.

Stop it sheesh, also not "just" as I posted about this at 1/07/2020 10:01pm. Sit back and let facts come in before you jump to a conclusion and then defend that conclusion to the death.

Not very likely to be AA at all for a shit ton of reasons including where they crashed.
