Your list keeps getting longer and longer.

What is the differential like, thinking if you want a turbo/blown V-8 in it, might want to check the condition of it and the entire drive train.

I think I would do all the safety/comfort stuff first, especially the brakes, steering, 5 lug rims and good tires.

The interior stuff is generally pretty time consuming. You farming it out or doing it yourself ?

I love the POR stuff, discovered it while working on my old Toyota.

Supercharger kits for a 5.0 ford are a bit spendy, have fun with that.

I'm putting priority on the weather stripping and interior first because I want to drive it while I work on it and consider those semi-emergency situations if I'm going to do any work on instruments/electrical. I suspect the rust inside the panels is reaching a critical stage and want to head it off at the pass.

I'm doing it myself with the help of my buddy. Grinding wheels, POR15.

Suspension, steering, brakes come next/concurrently but I'm waiting for this weekend to order parts for that. I have a friend who is a master mechanic and veteran hot rod builder. I wanted to go over all of that with him to get a pro's input.

I'm not taking it out for any more driving over 35mph until this is done. It's got quite a few kinks but relatively easy fixes.

Motor, transmission swap come much later but I wanted to plan ahead.

Yeah, naturally, that comes last. By the time I get there I should have enough set aside to afford something reasonable.

Yeah, you are a pro at this, I'm just chiming in.

Looks to me way to get some power in it with a 5 liter is to get a 90s model 5 L out of a truck or suv. I was seeing 300+ at rear wheels, supposedly, normally aspirated and driveable by switching cams/exhaust type stuff. The turbo and blower kits are available for the later model motors, too, but spendy.

My buddy is the real MVP here. I've just done this before.

A good choice. Those came with good factory forged pistons IIRC.

Yeah. I opened a separate bank account for the whole project to keep track of expenses.

Speaking of Ford porn...which is way more interesting than gun porn btw..

Holy shit. McQueen's pony sold for $3.7M and is now the largest sale ever.

Guess what the current 2nd place car is?

Yep, smokin hot 1971 HEMI Cuda. Cobalt blue. A modest $3.5M

if you're really interested in Mustangs, Rabbit, I recommend youtube car shows like this one or Roadkill:

If you are interested in learning more about these classic beauties I recommend looking at serious collector and restoration videos about people who love them for what they really are.

Car shows videos are trying to sell cars but if you want to be able to identify quality, the approach that works for me the most is coming at from the technical end. Getting into the nitty gritty of the nuts and bolts past the sex appeal and straight into the true love of these glorious machines. A pretty girl can catch your eye but if you know her soul that's where the real relationship starts to happen.

I could never be one of those soulless men who just collect a harem of vehicles that they keep locked away in some dark corner and watch them fall to pieces. They demand to be driven and cared for intimately.

Whereas I do agree that cars like that need to be driven, 3.7 million is a lot to gamble on a fender bender or blown tire.

It's been a while, but still 3.7 million is a fuck ton to lose because of a blowout. Classic Mustang's while being my favorite car type aren't really known for their handling. I would drive the fuck out of it don't get me wrong, but I do understand why someone might garage it for safe keeping as well. I'm not exactly easy on my Mustang LOL. In fact I'm deciding if I want to boost the HP a bit.

That car has only been sold 3 times.

The first two times were for $3500.

I want to record the sound of that engine and loop it. I could listen to 10 hours of that.
