One of the reasons for the writers' strike is that along with low wages there was a market glut of content generating writers at the time. Still is to be honest.

Anyway, it was around this time that the lead writers for BSG got offered a lot more money to go work on a different project, so the Sci-Fi channel dumped them when they asked for more money and replaced them with a hack. It was this hack that wound up in charge of the show and the rest is history.

The first 3 seasons of BSG were solid gold. What came after I don't know because after the boxing kumite episode I stopped watching the program. It was really just a poorly written soap opera riding on the desecrated bones of a great fearsome beast at that point.

Also, they took a lot of careers down when they let the writing staff go. When the show tanked so did the reviews. It's one thing to come off a hit show that everybody loves but to come off a hit show that was written into a toilet won't exactly open a lot of doors. I realize that Sci-Fi was spending a lot of money on that show and they wanted to see a greater ROI producing things like Star Trek with low budgets and relatively high profits but they really should have been looking more strongly at the long game.

Most the actors from BSG are now doing cameos on *shudder* the CW. The horror. The... horror.

          Yeah, he was impressive.
I have mixed feelings about this show. It is more about the culture of fighting across the world and that is ok, but I get Fight Quest flashbacks and wonder why isn't Grillo getting pummeled at any time.

Seriously, the "new," BSG is my favorite series evar, even the end. Masterful drama. I weep. Smacks of HHGG, but with adult overtones. There are many copies, but this one is mine.
BSG (the new one) is also my father's new favorite binge watch. I find it ironic when he tells me this, because he wasn't around anymore when I fell in love with BSG (the original) in syndication around 1980.

The real differences between the two?

            Sex.

The Gun on Ice Planet Zero (original BSG) is one of the greatest fucking moments in the history of television. So much, it's been immortalized in memes and YT videos nobody but people like you and me would give a shit about anymore.

Bonus points if you can name the magazines used @0:19 Youtube time (0:24 in The Countdown) as prop explosive detonators.

Recently got caught up on preacher. Three more episodes until it ends. Absolutely an amazing shown that has been tragically overlooked.

I'm not a big fan of super hero movies but I have been really enjoying The Boys on Amazon Prime (apart from Kurt urban's dodgy Brit accent)

I watched this when we had a quiet period at work and I agree about the accent. Urban being a "Geezer" wasn't so much bad, I found it to be distracting because it just didn't fit with the feel of the show. Other than that it was pretty well done and I'll watch season 2.

I watched the I-Land thing on Netflix. Had the couch-lock so couldn't bring myself to change the channel.

First 2 episodes were good, the rest was refined dookie. It's like they fired the writing staff after ep 2 or something because it just turned into molten poop cake.

Just finished Unbelievable on Netflix. Highly recommended.

This is based on a true story of a woman who was brutally raped in Oregon in 2008 and was forced to recant her story by incompetent detectives. 3 years later, 2 detectives in Colorado are tracking the same guy with a much different approach to the victims. So it follows 2 timelines, one of the aftermath of the girl in Oregon and the other of the detectives on the hunt in Colorado. Really well acted, gripping stuff.

My wife bailed before the end of the 1st episode which is all about the Oregon girl, it is pretty hard to take. If you can stick it out to the second episode where they get going with the detective work it gets less bleak.

I've been toying with starting that. I love true crime stuff, but the trailer/preview hasn't really grabbed me, despite Netflix putting it at the top of the page every single time I log in. I'll take your recommendation and maybe kick it off, tonight.

It's based on this story, which is really good long-form journalism. Spoiler warning: the series follows the story very closely, reading it will give you most of the plot points.

Oh, this is a false confession thing? I'm definitely going to watch it. Tagged out of reading the whole article, but I'll revisit it when I'm done with the vids.
