And this is the problem with having all the news about guns written by people who know fuck all about guns. The first question this woman should have been asked by every reporter who talked to her is, "Why the hell did you pull the trigger?"

The gun is a Ruger LCP (the Richmond Register described it as a "Kruger" LCP--http://www.richmondregister.com/loca...l-Annex-office ).

Just so there is no confusion--I agree that she's an idiot when it comes to gun safety.

I've never handled an LCP--or even seen one in person. I did find the manual at: https://ruger-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/_manuals/lcp.pdf . Ruger describes the LCP as "Single strike double-action". She probably pulled the trigger to de-cock it--and because she's an idiot. Nowhere does Ruger recommend doing so as part of the unloading process.

Yeah, on an LCP you have to cycle the trigger to de-cock. Of course, you are supposed to UNLOAD it first. It's pretty obvious she ejected the mag, and dropped the hammer without cycling the slide.

Or the even more stupid: Racked the slide and THEN ejected the mag and pulled the trigger to de-cock. EITHER WAY, THAT IS A "negligent discharge." Not an accidental discharge.

Not sure if the chamber is clear?

No problem: just point firearm at someone and pull the trigger.

You'll likely then know whether or not the chamber had a round in it.

Please make sure the lucky recipient shares your genotype.

          Thank you.
