I didn't know this until recently, but apparently there's no more sleeve rolling to coincide with bogus tattoo restrictions, so hearing this isn't too surprising. Hard to hear this when I once had a PLTN SGT that wanted to put anyone on remedial PT who got below a 280 on a PFT (and 300 is perfect!) If anyone did fail one they were taken to the "tree-line" for a "period of instruction."
I still that's nothing compared to some of the British TA guys here. I have loads of respect for the UK Forces, but I know of E-4s that have barely deployed and can't pass their PTIs. A fricken TA pti is 2 minutes to do 40 bloody sit ups and press ups, and 14 minutes to run a mile and a half. I'm sorry but any fat bastard that can't do that isn't a soldier.

The regular Army is indeed being downsized and the TA increased to meet the gap and apparently the quality of the TA is supposed to rise with more hybrid units, more active jobs etc. That's the idea anyway.
