I went to see Leche de Tigre, Afro/Cuban jazzy drum driven Latin Gypsy Funk w/ beautiful female vocalist a few years ago in Honoka'a, up the Hamakua coast from Hilo. They were opening for Medicine for the People and we became instant fans. Indie Folk Hip Hop Singer Song Writer Drum Dance, I'm not sure how to classify them, but they put on great shows, and you get to stomp on fucking hippies!
Medicine is touring all over the Mainland these days, they put on a good show (and girls like them, maybe you'll get layed). So check out the dates.
Nahko, the lead, is hapa Native American, Puerto Rican, Fillipino, and a child of a rape. He has obviously dealt with his demons and is sharp, exuberant, dark, and he and the band take their message of "find your medicine and use it," seriously.
Come to the Big Island (I think they have straight jobs) to see Leche de Tigre:
