    A boy and wild marmots

The marmots and me: The schoolboy, 8, who has struck up a remarkable friendship with a colony of alpine animals

They are notoriously shy around humans, beating their tails and chattering their teeth to try to warn us off before emitting loud whistles to tell other members of their colony to flee.

But when these alpine marmots see Matteo Walch, they scuttle to his side and show him nothing but affection.

The eight-year-old built up a remarkable relationship with the creatures since first being taken to see them by his nature-loving family four years ago.

Neat! I see marmots in the Sierras sometimes, and they really are shy around humans. They like to be a few hundred feet away on a rock ledge.

This is probably true, and bad news for the marmots if they all start thinking humans=food.

Sure fire way of catching Tick-Borne Encaphalitis right there.

            Probably.

Maybe we'll be lucky and they'll just kill him for his pelt.

Why is it that when a rat grows big enough people start to think it's cute?

                  There's no accounting for taste.

I mean, your wife married you, right? And you wonder about a few people who find rodents attractive?
Shut the hell up and train.

But I'm a juicy piece of man meat. Your analogy needs work.

Its the lack of rat tail, not the size IMO. People love squirrels and hamsters even though they're like small rats without tails, and people hate opossums which are like giant rats. The tail seems to be the deciding factor.

Small Austrian boy is interested in marmots. Later, he will go through some marmot-connected dissappointment and start to hate them.

He will foster his anger and marmot-hatred for his whole life and, as an adult, he will lead his country into an all out war against the marmots, killing millions of them in special fenced institutions.

He'll become like the Batman, but instead of the bat persona being centered around fear and darkness, it'll be around cuteness and not making any sudden movements. Consequently his crime fighting career will be brief and uneventful.

Bet they would make great long range rifle targets.
