I like how the author concludes with this:
So, how long before it declares the "right" to regulate the amount of broccoli in your blood stream? Because if it can regulate the alcohol content of your blood, it can surely regulate the amount of broccoli in your blood too
Yeah, its just like that. That's not at all totally insane.

For once, I'm with Cracked. The entire thing sounds like something that only makes sense in drunk logic.

I totally would support drunk drivers if they drove only on roads dedicated to drunk driving, which of course would have no speed limits and high walls either side. Natural selection would receive a boost.

I'm always struck by the tale I read as part of my Indian history thesis of the Maharaja and the English noblemen who in the early 1900s enjoyed a night of drinking and then went for a ride in the Englishman's car to 'sober up'.

I thought it was a fascinating contrast in attitudes from the dawn of the automobile to that of the modern day.

We used to measure trips; three guys to SLC, a twelve pack. Times have changed. I like Germany. I was told that first offense = license for life lifted. Second = prison. Of course they have good public system. My kids drank in a underage nightclub near Munich, it was beneath city hall. Different attitude and one that makes sense.

I think they could go at a bit faster than that and bowling down the lanes of rural India at that time, you were very likely to encounter someone trying to cross or tooling along the road themselves.

Drink driving in rural areas has always been 'safer' than doing so in urban ones, but even so it's still dangerous.

Better them to crash on a tree or fall down a river than to run over people

To clarify I don't think its a good idea to drink drive, anywhere.

If I had a rollcage in my car I would be totally down for this

Statistically, drivers under 24 are 7.5x as likely to be in a an accident than a person over 75. They're 3x as likely to be in a fatal accident.

I agree; I run into drunk drivers occasionally while working. Every one I meet translates into an additional hundred bucks in the equipment fund (a hundred out of about twenty-seven hundred that they end up paying). I even got a cool pin to wear on my shirt.
