Originally posted by Nutcracker, sweet View PostWe were just talking about Patrick Swayze movies in another thread. S. Darko is an excellent sequel, btw.
If you're gonna smash a sacred cow, don't hold back. Me, I love Duran Duran. They're a guilty pleasure of mine like a like of other 80's crap. But never again can I hear "Notorious" without thinking of sexually abused girls and Cunningham's kiddie torture dungeon. That's why they call it "creepy", it crawls up the back of your neck and never leaves.

Notorious was the harbinger of the end of relevance for LeBon and crew. I loved everything they did up until that album. One of my favorites:

Originally posted by Nutcracker, sweet View PostDirty Dancing was pretty creepy, if you stop and think about it. Some 20-or-30-ish other-side-of-the-tracks servant seducing a minor. Can we all say "typecast?"
Now this, this is fucking subversive shit. Naked lizards? Nope, this song about about sex plain and simple.
Omar Sharif even shows up at 0:11.

Originally posted by Nutcracker, sweet View PostAll songs are about sex or politics or religion or drugs (all spokes on the wheel of morality). The only shocking thing is when we realize what the lyrics actually mean.
"The Union of the Snake is on the climb
Moving up it's gonna race it's gonna break
Through the borderline"
They're talking about cocks and vaginas.

Think Procol Harum (Whiter Shade of Pale, etc.), if Procol Harum were all Elder God cultists.
It's not bad stuff, and most of the band were very good musicians, but they were never very successful. I personally feel the band may have had an influence on 70's era horror rock acts like Alice Cooper and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
