Anyone wanna pick apart a ghost photo?

I know some of you have a background in determining fake or altered photos, and my stepmom has been wondering about this ghost one that a trusted friend of hers swears is legit:

I tried doing a little image editing to get a better look at what's going on there. Something about the regular patterning on the girl doesn't look right to me, but I'm just an amateur:

any thoughts from you guys who know more about this stuff?

didnt even see the "ghost" at first but your edited image makes it look like a japanese jinzo statue.

the thing with ghosts as opposed to crypto-monsters is that since they aren't really part of our world, it's easy to just brush off inconsistencies. it's "magic," after all.

what i see first is that the light source on the girl is coming from the left, whereas we can clearly see on the couple it's on the right. the girl also looks a bit sharper in resolution compared to the guy's face.

lastly, and i haven't confirmed this yet, but the girl looks extremely familiar, like i've seen that image in a video game or a movie somewhere. i'm still looking for the source, i'll let you know if i find it.

anyhow, my response is always THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS MAGIC.

The photo doesn't show any ELA irregularities (not that that means anything conclusive) but I was wondering why the woman would be wearing sunglasses at night while camping.

Ha, well I think we've solved the mystery gang. Turns out a new iPhone application for adding ghosts to camera pics is the culprit.

Apparently that little girl ghost is one of the selectable ghosts to insert.

Here's another news story picked up, notice the boy in this news story is the same as the one in the middle of the selections above:

Inconsistencies are one thing, but there's also telltale signs of a photo that's been poorly shopped as soon as you zoom in or adjust various settings. Cut and paste marks etc. I'm not really getting anything like that from this picture. On the other hand, it's a fairly small, low resolution picture so it could be manually altered to the point of not leaving any of these telltale signs.

To me, it looks like the light source on the girl is also coming from the right. Notice how the lower half of the dress fades from right to left, with a little shadow on the left side of the dress. The resolution looks about the same to me if you zoom in a little (it's not very good in either case).

lastly, and i haven't confirmed this yet, but the girl looks extremely familiar, like i've seen that image in a video game or a movie somewhere. i'm still looking for the source, i'll let you know if i find it.
Creepy little girl ghosts in Victorian looking clothing are a pretty common thing in ghost movies and stuff. It kinda reminds me of the Red Queen in the first Resident Evil movie.

anyhow, my response is always THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS MAGIC.
and if there were ghosts, they probably wouldn't be wearing period costumes.

It's only natural that a website composed of skeptics would automatically reject the photo, but I'm surprised how close-minded some of you are. You don't even think for a second the photo might be real? And if you're the kind of person who thinks every ghost photo ever taken is fake, then how do you explain this video?

By the way, I think the ghost in that video above was Ron Reis:
