Sources nowhere near close to Bullshido* have reported that the quintessential 80's clusterfrak of chintzy pop culture and Kung Fu by Motown maven Berry Gordy is set to return to the screen, likely in 2012.

Gordy's son Kerry and the RZA are producing the film, and it's reported that Samuel Jackson has signed on to play the Shogun of Harlem, Sho'nuff.

No word on who will be cast as the Chinese hip hop dudes outside the fortune cookie factory or if the lead actress will be a member of Prince's harem.

*We looked it up on Wikipedia so you wouldn't have to.

Also, Permalost is correct. Michael Jai White could play either Bruce Leroy or Sho'nuff equally well. And he alone would make the movie worth watching.

This sucks. It'll look better with CGI and all the usual bells and whistles, then it'll fall flat on its fucking face with lame acting and badly-chosen actors. Taimak may be able to play Bruce Leroy, since the brother hasn't aged a day since the movie first appeared in theaters, but isn't the guy who played Sho'nuff dead? Who'll replace him? I love Samuel L Jackson as much as anyone with soul, but damn. The man puts out some new shit every 6 months. Let the man take a nap!
Is there any chick out there right now as fine as Vanity was back then?

I loved the movie, but hearing about the remake only makes me think of how shitty Hollywood's remake record is and how I wish they'd leave the classics alone and work on some original shit.

    /rant.

Okay, they're already immortal, but then the last guy could be immortal and not constantly worry about his head getting chopped off. And plus, all that absorbed lightning... I dunno
Actually The Prize is clarified at the end of the original Highlander.

Connor becomes mortal, is able to have children (something the Immortals can't have), and can read people's minds.

If you think about it at a philosophical level (and Highlander definitely discusses this concept in detail in all various movies/shows), immortality is a curse.

A real immortal would probably grow jealous of mortals over time, wanting to sire offspring, grow old with a loved one, and die peacefully instead of getting hunted down and decapitated.

This is clearest in the original Highlander, because immortality causes all the grief in Connor's life from his original death at the hands of the Kurgan, being cast out of his clan, the death of his first wife....

Never forget the classic Queen hit from Highlander.

WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER????....(when love must die)

Btw...Brian May of Queen has a PhD in Astrophysics...and has an asteroid named after him (Brianmay 52665)...true story. He is essentially Buckaroo Banzai, but IRL.

I forgot about that Stygens. If it took place near the end of the series, could be I had lost interest by then, though I kinda remember that story arc with the "evil" watchers. Either way I agree about the reboot. But why the hate for Neeson? He has a history with sword fighting movies, some of them damn good (Rob Roy)!

Even the TV show, which I liked at the time, did a lot of stupid stuff like how they would actually "die" and go unconscious from killing blows and then "wake up" a few minutes later. Was a huge plot hole they never addressed because it kinda made them just as easy to kill as anyone else, if you think about it. Just "kill" them and then chop off their head before they come back to life. The first movie was pure genius, though. And I could definitely approve of a remake with better special effects.
They did address that point. There was a group of Watchers who started shooting Immortals and decapitating them. And I think there was one Immortal in an early season who cheated and shot his opponents first.

But I digress... I think a properly done reboot of Highlander could be awesome! I'm holding out for a trilogy stretching out the original film's plot that deepens the relationships between the characters, and ends with a decent explanation of what the Prize really is. (I do not need an explanation for "why" the Immortals exist -- especially if it involves mitochondria or midichlorians.) But I'm not holding my breath.

I also deeply fear Liam Neeson will be tapped to play Juan Sanchez Villa Lobos Ramirez.

Back on topic...I am a huge The Last Dragon fan.

Yes it is a guilty pleasure...but let's be fair:

1 - The main villain, Sho Nuff is an awesome bad ass with a fro that can block punches from at least two directions.

2 - The idiot villain (Eddie Arkadian) is a twisted, evil...arcade owner? Awesome.

3 - The fight choreography in TLD is pretty great for an 80's pop culture movie. The kung fu in TLD is better than most of the kung fu I've seen in movies out of China. Why? Because it's STREET FIGHTING GHETTO KUNG FU, BEEYATCH!

4 - The music is 80's era funk/pop...goes well with the action. I have at least three songs from this movie on my ipod. Yes I work out to them occasionally....hey stop looking at me like that.

5 - Last but not least, Vanity was fucking hot. I wanted to "show her my moves", too.

P.S. Fuck you, Wrabbit. I love the Hellraiser series.
Me too. I actually saw Hellraiser II in the theater which was worth it, given the size of Hell's Labyrinth.

Yes...this is definitely childhood rape....considering the guy who played Sho Nuff (Julius Carey) recently died.

I would much rather see another Black Dynamite film than a remake a absolute Hood Classic in The Last Dragon.
