Damn. Good looking stuff, but...no ground grappling? Seems odd, usually the Russians in general and SAMBO guys in particular are all about that. Russian military combatives are still sambo-based, right?

I would assume so. But, I have seen other vids where they focus less on ground.

So, this can be described as "SAMBO-based Sanda"? I like it!

The only time I saw someone hit the ground like that in the Air Force was when they slipped on the drips on the floor by the soft serve Ice cream machine in the chow hall. Good stuff Steve, hope you're recovery is going well.

Thanks man. Recovery is good. Taught a seminar today. Did some throws for the first time. Foot feels OK. Not 100%, but good enough to start moving a bit again.

I think that might just be the editing. A few times they hit the ground, before the cut you could see there was a bit of gnp or at least they were still engaged.

I've found 1 full fight (but it's Russian). Fight starts at 2:20.
Looks more like SAMBO-based Sanda or Daido Juku instead of looking like Combat SAMBO.

Can a Russian speaking Bully listen to the commentary and maybe determen what the rules are, the fighters get stand up a lot, but still badass.

YouTube- АРБ. Мелкоступов vs. Дамланпурэв (Часть 1) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLQ7QKarRKw&feature=related)

Meh, this is about as far as I got:

Narrator:
Army hand-to-hand combat.
Unique >word that implies ancestral< full contact sparring, which include various strikes with both hands and feet, as well as combat techniques (probably implying grappling techniques.)

0:11
The date of birth of ARB (acronym for Army Hand-to-Hand Combat) is considered 1979, when they had the first ever championship of the Paratrooper units. Until '94, ARB was a viable sport form.Competition took place only among the military.

0:32
ARB was the first to implement defensive equipment: a ribbed helmet, gloves, a padded jacket, and >either cup or mouth guard... Im unfamiliar with this term, which literally is translated to "sink."< This allows the competitors to attack full contact while maintaining injuries to a minimum.
