Hey everybody. This Friday, I am fighting at an amateur MMA event called fight Night Naperville, hosted by Cut Throat MMA. I am 2-0, and looking to go 3-0 by the end of the night. This is also my first time fighting at Featherweight. The cut was a bit difficult, but nothing too bad. I weigh in tomorrow.

I'm really excited for this fight for a couple reasons. My last two fights were against guys who were mainly strikers, but this fight my opponent is mainly a wrestler. What also makes it interesting is that we use to be part of the same fight team.

The other factor is that for my fights before, I have never trained an adequate amount of striking. I've always trained a tiny bit, then most of my work would be with grappling/BJJ. For this fight, I've worked a ton with a very good Muay Thai coach. It's been tough but I really feel my striking has improved a lot and I want to show that in the fight. Also for the fight, I've been working my BJJ with a BJJ black belt, and I've worked with a D1 wrestler on my defensive wrestling.

I can't wait to fight, and I'll let you guys know what happens.

Kfighter, aren't you Korey Kuropas on Sherdog? And if so, why does it say you're a pro fighter there?

Either way, good luck! I'm rooting for you, not only because you're on this forum, but also because I tend to root against wrestlers. Maybe because I fear them so.

That's me strikistanian. I've told the mods multiple times that I'm amateur. They asked me "do you plan on turning pro?". To which I said of course, so they said they will leave it as pro.

And thanks brotha. I lean towards strikers and BJJ fighters myself.

How many fights do you intend to have before you make the leap?

Also, you said that you used to train with this guy... How are his other skills, aside from wrestling?

I'm thinking after this one, just two or three more then pro.

His striking skills are poor. He's aggressive, but his striking isn't there. His BJJ is nothing compared to mine. But the fact is, he is a way better wrestler then me. I've been training defensive wrestling with a wrestler from Cornell so I want to keep it standing.

I think the big difference in this fight will be the striking. I think I will find a home for my hands, my shins and my knees to a KO or TKO victory.

You can knee to the face in amatuer in Illinois?!

No you are not allowed to. You are allowed to knee to the body and legs.

Gotcha. I misunderstood and thought you said that you might KO him with a knee, and I was like "whoa what?" I couldn't imagine them allowing amateurs to knee or elbow to the face. On the flip side of that, it amazes me how ass-backwards the amateur rules are in some states. ie: no GnP to the face, no GnP at all, no striking to the face, no headkicks, headgear required, and things of that nature.

That aside, break a leg (preferably his)!
