I just noticed this Taiwanese documentary over at Formosa Fitness (http://formosafitness.pixnet.net/blog) (formerly Formosa Neijia, Dave's moved his focus to IMA + personal training, with a strong emphasis on kettlebells). There's old footage, training manuals, interviews, and so on. Most of you should skip directly to part five, but here's the whole series for completeness:

Part 1:

(1/5) 20090718 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGu36k5JqXQ)

... the demos ~7:34 look to me like they must be related to the Southern styles that fed Okinawan karate.

Part 2:

(2/5) 20090718 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nj3TsNlsLo)

... discusses JMA influence on Taiwanese martial arts, including kendo and Judo.

Part 3:

(3/5) 20090718 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esAt8FM300Q)

Part 4:

(4/5) 20090718 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL8JA1MOq9M)

... influence of the movies, loads of Bruce Lee and Jet Li. Chun by the kilo.

Part 5 (by far my favorite):

YouTube - 台灣演義:台灣武術史(5/5) 20090718 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBikHO3j_Kk)

... the robust old guy is a Judo legend in Taiwan (if I understand him correctly, he competed on the Taiwanese olympic team in 1973), former pro wrestler, and xingyi/bagua guy. Dave says he's ~80 years old and still teaching. After that there's some baji, including several demos of the phoenix-eagle throw along with an explanation of it at 5:25. Then: Sanda!
