David Avellan's claim of defeating Rener Gracie in a tournament? I was expecting more from the article on the web site like Avellan chokes out Rener Gracie or Avellan arm bars Renner Gracie.

Dude, all you did was pass his guard and scored points and pinned him..........???........ I know this was a sport Jiu Jitsu tournament and it's great that you beat him, but does this really rate a true victory that the website boasts for getting points by passing someones guard? If so, "stay hot there guy, and congratulations!!!"

I'm reading through the bullshido on the FFA website. Your school may not be a mcdojo, but your website makes you look like one.

David, how is that chin there buddy? I saw that guy knock you out earlier this year at the WEC Hollywood, FL Hardrock Casino. You know the fight that you don't have posted on your website.

So to sum it up, the Avellan's are top notch grapplers who win competitions, defeat known top grapplers, enter MMA fights.

And you are a douche that does not.

So you're complaining about him winning a bout he won?
STFU.

I don't know the Avellan brothers and I don't know you but I do know you're a scrub bitch.

Yes, actually I am complaining. I think if someone is going to boast a victory in a tournament such as this then it should be by a tap out, choke or submission. Not by passing someones guard. Me being the scrub bitch as you affectionately call me would be embarrassed to accept this type of victory.

My comments would have been with praise to David if he actually got a submission or choke on Rener. Eventhough FFA's website is accurate that David beat Rener. The story behind is the victory is over dramatic. I can see how someone new and has no clue about fighting would be impressed. However, I see through the BS.

UpaLumpa you must be an awesome purple belt at jiu passguardsu since you think that passing the guard is an honorable way to win...STAY HOT THERE GUY!!!

To Darkson and 13ringinheat - I respect your comments...however FFA needs to come up with a better website.

I still feel strongly about the passing the guard comment though. I think the point system is stupid. I believe that sport jiu jitsu needs to reevaluate its rules, points, and time limits.

BTW, banning me is probably a good thing...I am addicted to the internet!!!

When you can pass the guard of someone half as good as those you're disparaging, revisit this thread.

The fact of the matter is that at the highest level quite often it is the narrowest of advantages that separate the winner and the loser. Catching even a typical blackbelt is a hell of a lot easier than catching an elite competitor.

What's your competition record? Any points victories amongst them or do you merely talk about what grappling should look like?

Rolls Gracie, widely regarded as the best of the Gracies (even compared to Rickson), devised the point system around the positional hierarchy that shapes all of jiu jitsu. While there may be a case to be made about aspects of playing for points you may well reconsider whether the depth of your jiu jitsu knowledge is as deep as you think it is.

Also, it seems pretty clear that this is about a school that is a competitor of yours that you're trying to disparage.

Helio Gracie also said that Jiu Jitsu thrives where there are no rules. And originally it was the Japanese that took Jiu Jitsu and made it a sport...not the Gracies. That sport is called Judo (has scoring in competition). Japan wanted to become one with the civilized western world and wanted Jiu Jitsu practitioners to develop a safe sport to train and be recognized. That in a nutshell is how Judo was born.

Former Jiu Jitsu practitioners began traveling around the world demonstrating Judo. The rest is history as you may already know how Jiu Jitsu got to Brazil.

Helio Gracie fought in challenge matches with very little rules, no time limits, and no weight classes. Helio never fought a fight with points or pins. Helio Gracie focused more on the Self Defense side of Jiu Jitsu and wanted to prove that Jiu Jitsu gave the smaller, weaker person a chance to defend themselves against someone larger and stronger.

The second generation of Gracie fighters began changing the Jiu Jitsu that Helio taught them causing another mutation of Jiu Jitsu and again making it a sport.

Helio Gracie also knew that being pinned on his back for a certain amount of time is not to be considered a defeat like in wrestling or judo. Look at Royce during UFC 4 with Dan Sevren...16 minutes Royce on his back just about the whole time, and against a much larger, stronger opponent, and very little rules (Thats the type of Jiu Jitsu that I'm into). I feel the same about the guard like Helio Gracie felt about being on his back.

I don't care if someone passes my guard because I don't train for competition and points; I train in self defense. For example, in certain situations I will invite the person to go straight to the mount out of strategy because I know my upa escape is better to turn the situation around if the person is better than me. This translates into being self defense minded by always trying to improve my position in an efficient manner.

The only thing points does for a competition is that if forces movement so the fight is more exciting.

I don't know why I have a wild hair about FFA. Heck, I don't know anybody that trains there. But what I do know is I think their website is as stupid as other people have put it. I wanted to read how David choked out, or submitted Rener, and then I read that crap. Ok, I'll just cheat by passing his guard enough times to score points and pin him to win. Thats like finding some loophole in the tax law. Not very honorable to me. How about fight like Helio did in the old days.

If I wanted to play for points I would play skee ball.

Good bye forever, make whatever dimwitted comments you want. I am never returning to this website, because it is lame!!!

PS, Look up Judo practitioner, Mifune in youtube and compare what he did then to today's Judo such as "101 ipons" to see the differences in how judo has been watered down

Also compare Royce Gracie in the first 4 UFC's and his later fights for example with Matt Hughes and Sakuraba. It is like Royce is two totally different fighters. Royce through the years and the mutation of the UFC and the rules changed Royce's fighting style.

WTF1394, YOU ARE A DOUCHEBAG. THIS COMMENT IS RETARDED:

"I don't care if someone passes my guard because I don't train for competition and points; I train in self defense. YOU BASICALLY TRAIN EXCLUSIVELY FOR DOJO SPORT GRAPPLING!!! NOT SPORT GRAPPLING BECAUSE YOU WOULD LOSE BY POINTS, JUST FOR DOJO GRAPPLING. BECAUSE IF YOU WERE TO LET YOUR GUARD GET PASSED IN REAL FIGHTS YOU WOULD GET THE $HIT POUNDED OUT OF YOU IN A REAL FIGHT WHICH IS WHY BJJ GIVES POINTS FOR PASSING GUARD!

BUDDY, YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY THE MOUNT IS WORTH 4 ADDITIONAL POINTS? BECAUSE YOUR BJJ GODS YOU WORSHIP HAD THE COMMON SENSE TO REALIZE THAT GETTING MOUNTED IS EVEN WORSE AND WOULD RESULT IN MASSIVE ELBOWS AND PUNCHES TO YOUR FACE. WHILE YOUR TRYING YOUR PATHETIC UPA ESCAPE YOU WOULD BE GETTING YOUR TEETH PUNCHED IN. SO WHILE YOU ARE SUCH A HOMO AND CANT KEEP GUARD (BEACUSE YOUR BJJ SUCKS) AND YOU LET PEOPLE MOUNT YOU, YOU ARE BASICALLY TRAINING TO GET YOUR OWN A$$ KICKED. BUT YEAH, YOU TRAIN FOR SELF DEFENSE, RIGHT BUDDY.

I KNOW YOU ARE PROBABLY A GRACIE MIAMI BOY SO YOU ARE BUTT HURT BUT LISTEN TO THIS........... YOUR GRACIE BOY YOU ARE CRYING FOR, THEY CHOSE THE RULES! THEY MADE ALL THE SPECIAL RULES: NO TIME LIMIT, NO TAKEDOWN POINTS, AFTER 3 MINUTES ON TOP IF NO GUARD PASS THEN THEY HAD TO FLIP POSITION, (THOSE RULES ARE ALL TRUE) BLAH BLAH BLAH AND THEN THEY STILL LOSE AND THE EXCUSES ARE STILL PILING UP ABOUT POINTS.

I BET YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE HOMOS WHO LOCKS HIS HANDS TOGETHER WHEN HE GETS GUARD PASSED OR MOUNTED, LOL SO YOU CANT GET SUBMITTED AND YOU CONSIDER THAT SELFDEFENSE. FAGGOTT, WHILE YOURE HANDS ARE LOCKED U WOULD BE GETTING POUNDED IN THE FACE THAT ISNT SELF DEFENSE.

HOW MANY MMA FIGHTS HAVE YOU DONE WITH YOUR SELF DEFENSE GRAPPLING OF LETTING PEOPLE GUARD PASS YOU AND MOUNT YOU?????? NONE BUT YOU ARE SURE FAST TO CALL OUT AND INSULT PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY DO STEP IN THE CAGE AND WIN FIGHTS. PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD KILL THEMSELVES. GO SUCK A GRACIE COCKK AND CHOKE ON IT TO DEATH YOU HOMO. I READ YOUR PROFILE AND ALL THOSE MARTIAL ARTS YOU TOOK WERENT CRAP............. YOU ARE CRAP. THAT WAS TEH COMMON DENOMINATOR THERE BUDDDDY!!!!

The last part of this contradicts the first part.
You're not training for self defense, you're training to get your ass kicked.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and guess you suck.

WTF-

Why don't you come by one of our schools and prove how much of a bad ass you are?

I mean, it'd really be ideal for you to challenge Marcos himself, but we'll take what we can get. Watching you let anyone 'pass your guard and go straight to mount' because your upa is so powerful is too good to pass up, even if it's some 2 month whitebelt.

I train in your area and I'd be willing to meet some time to learn the ways of your AWESOMENESS.

UPA- Chill, brother. Don't get worked up over this. It's probably a 12 year old kid. A fat one.

I sent an email to Mayweatehr Jr. to let him know that some of his wins don't count because, he won by points not a KO.
