This year the division is pretty damn good. Monson must be considered a favourite based on his record alone but I think some of the competitors this year might pose real problems for him.

Jaoude and Erikson, if they are not tapped by the better ground players before they meet Monson might just win the takedown battle FTW.

My teacher Einemo's wrestling is also seriously underrated and might pose a real problem for the Snowman.

His best matchups would be the guard players like Saulo, Pietilainen and Werdum where he can grind them down for the point win.

Jaoude himself was very impressive in his Brazilian trials win and if he doesn't get caught he might very well make it far and even take the gold.

As usual the big boys' class probably will boil down to wrestling superiority coupled with sub defense.

I'm of course rooting for Einemo who is a former champ and a sub hunter and who can win the wrestling game with the best of them too IMO. I might be a bit biased of course. :)

I'm moving this to YMAS mostly because it will get more views and responses here.

This is the best 99 kg division in years.

Erikson is going to get tapped early I would think; he doesn't actually train with anyone for subs when he doesn't have a fight coming up. Einemo is probably the favorite; he's the only guy Roger's fought in no gi and not finished in the past four years. Seriously underrated guy.

But ultimately the top half of the division are all pretty much good enough to beat each other; it's going to come down to matchups and who is better at playing these specific rules.

Jeff would do best if he's facing the guard players IMO. He had a helluva hard time vs Rhadi. I suspect he won't be able to go through more than 1 fight like that. With Erikson, Ricco, Jaoude and Einemo in the mix it might be a tough time for him. Erikson will probabaly fall to one of the ground specialists but Jaoude and Einemo is a different story. And Einemo is a sub wolf too meaning that he'll take out the lesser competitors quick in contrast to Monson's more methoducal approach. This might give him a cardio advantage if they face off late in the brackets.

How does everyone see Einemo vs. Werdum if it happens?

In their mma match Werdum broke Einemo's nose early, which had him breathing through an open mouth and gassing out, but Werdum still couldn't do anything to him on the ground (although I believe he got more takedowns than Einemo did).

In grappling it'll be different I'm sure, but how different is gonna depend on bracketing and strategy.

I'm obviously rooting for Pietilšinen. He's a cool guy and won ultra heavy brown belts at mundials and came third in open in his first try at brown belts. Realistically I don't see him winning the tournament, but it will be interesting to see how he'll do.

Since this is YMAS...

I'm a fan of Monson's grappling/fighting, but that neck tat is just downright ass-backwards. Socialism's where the government's got the gun to your head; in capitalism the guy on the right would be beating the other guy with a bag of money.

Your argument would be stronger if he wasn't facing down a bunch of heavily armed guys in black standing guard outside a meeting of a bunch of bankers.

Werdum/Einemo will be a good fight but I think Einemo's wrestling will prevail. Sans the broken nose Einemo will not have the same cardio issues.

Pietilainen is a very good grappler and did very well vs Pe De Pano last time around but I fear his guard game style might get him outpointed at some stage.

Government laws are enforced by men with guns regardless of whether that government is capitalist, socialist, or any other economic system.

Are those guys private security paid for by the bankers, or part of Government?

Government is the only institution allowed to have a monopoly on armed force.

Capitalism is the foundation of letting citizens manage as much **** on their own as possible. Socialism is about the Government managing it for them.
