Hey all, I've been thinking of visiting the local MMA dojo, ran by Team ROC. They do Gracie Jui-Jitsu and Thai Boxing, and have 3 or 4 instructors. They've also just become a CrossFit affiliate, and CrossFit is just absolutely beast. Has anyone here actually gone to a Team ROC dojo? If so, how was the experience? Are they legit?

EDIT: Here's the website btw http://teamroc.net/Fayetteville.html

I've never been to one of their schools, so no experience to say. Um, but, I did a little digging regarding the photos on their homepage.

Regarding the claim to being 06-07 champs: http://www.mmanews.com/other/All-Army-Combatives-Tourney--IFL-Fighter-Tim-Kennedy.html

Regarding the 'CQC in the Cage' claim: http://cqcinthecage.com/index2?x=results

So, based on that, they seem legit. At least, their pictures have actual stories instead of them posing so they can say 'I Can HAZ PITCHER.' Something that I know has haunted MABS as of late...

Well, if you go through some of the links, you will see the instructor's bio. He pretty much says what his rank is, who it is under, and what some of his accomplishments and experience is.

Also, one of their fighters is Tara LaRosa, a VERY well known female fighter. I love her Judo.

From a quick look, everything appears to be legit. The information presented on the site is more than enough to investigate on your own and find out if the credentials are correct as well as some searches on the fight records.

***NOTE***

The website's information appears to be a bit old as it has LaRosa's MMA record at 4-1.

Team ROC is completely legit. They compete in NC MMA events all the time. Don't know what else to say.

Ok everyone, thanks a ton for your replies--I'm actually going to be swinging into their location later today to see it for myself and get all the info and all that.

Hi, I live in DC now (for the last three years) but I lived in NC for 25 years before that. My brother (who is a BJJ white belt and raleigh police officer) trains at Crossfit and I can assure you that they are totally legit. Jason and Billy (the instructors) are both Royce Gracie black belts, and they also bring in top notch guest instructors, like Royce Gracie and Dave Camarillo, frequently to do seminars/clinic. One of their students, Brandon Garner (I believe that is his name), who regularly trains there was also on that Spike show The Ultimate Fighter the other year (or at least he fought in one of the televised matches to get into the house--I can't remember). At any rate, you can go wrong with them! Great guys and excellent students.

Yeah, Team ROC is legit, no doubt about it!

Just like any martial arts school, though, they are not for everybody, though.

Team ROC guys here in Raleigh (Billy Dowey, Jason Culbreth, etc) are damn good. I know Billy better than I know Jason, but I've got a lot of respect for them both. As a martial arts school, I'd give them my highest recommendation
over all the other schools in Raleigh if it weren't for one factor....I also own a school in Raleigh!

Team ROC in Fayetteville is headed up by Greg Thompson, last I knew. I have a huge amount of respect for Greg. He (like Billy) is a top notch martial artist, teacher, and person.

I know everyone at Team ROC very well. We all have trained together or crossed paths at some time.

They are VERY legit. Tim Kennedy is a beast and they have several other outstanding fighters as well. Most of the Fort Bragg Combatives team trains there and they have always done very well at both Army and Civilian events. My only gripe with them is their hours. Usually come in at the tail end of training because I am still at work when they start.

If you have the chance go train there OR at Red Point MMA, which as many of the same pple going to both places. Red Point has better hours and open 7 days a week, plus it has a rock gym.

Hey Gezere, my cousin trains there. Have you ever met Frankie Byrd. His is blond, about 190 and ripped. Just now recovering from cracked ribs. Mostly works with Aitor (Spencer)

Yeah...I train there.

They (we) are legit as everybody said.

Check out my dojo review. Also, open mat is Saturday from 10am to 12pm if you want to stop by to roll.

I just started training at Team ROC Fayetteville last night. I had never before seen 40+ people on the mat at one time and I have to admit it was a ridiculous work out and most the guys who role there are in freakishly good shape.

Hey, I thought you were moving to Raleigh? Fayetteville instead?
