Sometimes I really fucking hate statistics. You take enough people in the world playing combat sports, and a certain number of them have to die of freak accidents like this.

What a horrible thing for the family of the dead kid.

What a horrible thing for the kid who kicked the kid to death accidentally.

What a horrible thing for the instructors on both sides.

TEEN KICKED IN TAEKWONDO MATCH
Teen offers apology
By Carolyn Quek

THE teenager who dealt a fatal kick to his taekwondo opponent last week showed up at the wake on Sunday night to pay his respects.

Accompanied by his parents and sister, the 15-year-old approached the mother of the late Vincent Tan mother, sombre, to offer his apology.

Vincent, 17, died last Thursday, four days after the kick to his neck ruptured a key blood vessel to his brain.

The teen, dressed in black, kept his head bowed as Vincent's grieving mother burst into tears and screamed at him in Malay.

'Why did you hit so hard? You should have been more careful!' cried Madam Nur Julia, 51.

The stout lad took the brunt of this stoically, his head bowed, and nodding occasionally.

It was only when he was taken aside to a table that the dam broke. He turned to his taekwondo instructor and wept.

His mother, who stood beside him as he faced Madam Nur Julia also cried.

The teen's father, aged 55, said his son was traumatised by the incident and had not eaten or slept well for a week, and that he would bar him from taekwondo for the time being.

Vincent, a first-year polytechnic student, will be cremated on Monday.

Do you think it's too soon to make a joke about how his ashes will be wet and molded into a breaking board for a special "powdering" demo?

Because I'd like to make the joke, but I don't want to be mean.

Totally a freak accident. Who'd have thought that kicks to the head could be fatal?

crocop must kick like a ***** next to this kid.

seriously though that's worse than the guy who got paralyzed trying to slam his way out of a guillotine a month ago.

Sometimes, unfortunately, **** just happens. Same as any contact sport.

Far less serious injuries (from what I understand) in MA than in rugby.

But still a tragic outcome.

Usually I love to jump in with a bad-taste pun on freak stories like this but yeah, this is tragic. Seriously unlucky. Obviously I feel for the family of the boy who died but I really feel sorry for the kid who did the kick, he's going to be stuck with that for the rest of his life.

If that happened here in the UK you'd get all sorts of armchair bullshit about banning MA's as they're dangerous to children or some such trite crap. So unlucky.

Let this be a lesson to all those who say TKD doesn't work. This kid killed someone by accident. Imagine how much damage he could have done if he was really trying.

Shut the **** up. If you're kidding, you're an ass. If you're serious you're an idiot.

Two families are now devistated. Like to know more of how that could happen, was there underlying illness, genetics, brittal arteries or something? People get kicked in the neck all the time.

Awful. May the dead rest in peace. May the living be able to deal with the aftermath.

An accident, a tragic one, but an accident all the same. To some degree you can understand why the mother went off at him, who could imagine loosing a child like that? But the poor kid, I hope he gets back on his feet.

Lucky shot, perhaps. Pardon the expression. People are die alot easier than alot of people realise. The body can take alot of superficial damage, but you hit the right spot, crush the rite artery or remove the right factor and it'll give in quickly.

That sounds awful and pessimistic, maybe, but fairly true.
