So, I'm looking at Youtube and I come across this guy: "Master" Bakari.
YouTube - Hsing-I..Xingyi Quan Combat kung fu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX_cHvxPr5k&feature=channel_page)

Does this look like any style of Hsing-i that anyone, anywhere has ever seen? So, I and many others, have tried to get this guy to say who his teachers are... he refuses to say. So... I'm curious. This "Master Bakari" is charging people to learn this... whatever it is? Any comments?

Accusation of fraud is a major legal undertaking. A video is a good start to what could possibly turn into an investigation, but not great.

It sounds like you have some kind of correspondence with Mr. Bakari. How, specifically, did it go? What exactly did you ask him and what did he say?

edit: just realized this was in YMAS. never mind. post saved in case it becomes a real thing.

Thats a strange one for sure...

Here is his channel on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/masterbakari

One of the vids claims lineage for his "Old" Yang-Taichi from "Great Grandmaster Lu Hung Bin":

YouTube - Lao [Old]Yang #3 Great Grand Master Lu Hung Bin lineage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pduPPeu9ytM)

Probably this "Lu Hung Bin"? http://luhungbin.com/

That website claims they teach Tai Chi Chuan, Pa Kua Chang, Hsing-Yi Chuan, Weapons and Qigong.

No mention of the Great Grandmaster on the page itself though. Instead one encounters this:

Founded in 1986 by Iva Lim Peck (AC #00024) and Richard A. Peck (AC #00055), the Acupuncture & Aesthetics Center, now the Integrated Center for Oriental Medicine is back with 20 years of experience. The Integrated Center for Oriental Medicine provides Traditional Chinese Medicine in a professional environment along with great patient support - a combination that can't be beat!
Through our commitment, experience, and expertise, The Integrated Center for Oriental Medicine has established a caring relationship with our patients that will last a lifetime! Funny how a website under the domain luhungbin.com does not contain any information about said "Great Grandmaster" at all. Or how the website seems to be generally missing pictures with people on them (they have lots of pictures of empty rooms though).

Edit: Google-Fu brings up some more:

First we have a crosslink with Dr. John Painter here: http://www.taichiinthepark.com/written_in_stone.htm

Is that the John P. Painter already discussed on Bullshido?

Then there is a video claimed to show Great Grandmaster Lu Hung Bin doing a sword-form here:

I just ask the question, "does this look like any Hsing-i that anyone has ever seen?" I enjoy seeing the differences in the different styles... Hebei, Sun, Shanxi... Five Elements, Linking Form... and the all important lineage. Many have asked on Youtube for his lineage. We get no answers.

Hsing-i is lame, someone that is adept at foot sweeping (omg, a traditional MA tech) would wipe the floor with it. Seriously, the body weight dropping that is involved with HI is way over hyped.

Let us not speak of how a low cut kick that would put them on their ass when they 'drop the hammer'...

Don't worry, thats just until they learn to re-channel their chi. After that they can easily root themselves to any given surface, whilst at the same time reinforcing their skin.

Sweeping them becomes like kicking an old oak-tree after that.

The only time they are vulnerable, is when the full moon falls on a saturday, between breakfast and lunch.

Ironically, when I learnt a hybrid of the IMAs, Xingyi [check that pinyin, bitches] stances were emphasised, especially low ones, due to the necessary leg strength required to maintain the postures and thus, according to my teachers, their stability and imperviousness from attack. Now I know better. A lot better.

True, true. I was stepping past my rule of "it's not what you train, but hw you train it," I'll be the first to admit it now.

And I would still list Matsumura Kenpo in my style field if I actually trained it, the only good dojo in Seattle closing last year keeps me from that (as you know).

Okay... I didn't see the Shackled Hands video with "Kimetic???" energy. That's just bad. So... his theory is if you have shackles on your wrists you can fight two guys. But in the video at :54, his hands come apart to chop the guy. Hmmmm.... I don't know but this kinda looks like BS to me....from his strange 'out-of-a-book' looking hsing-i to his secret old style tai chi to this 'shackled hands' style. Something just seems off.

That's why I didn't name it. I agree with what you are saying since 99.9% over-hype the body weight drop which, is a small part of the whole....in a good school.

Yeah go do boxing instead of Xingyi.

I'mwaiting for this to turn ugy. It will.
