I found this video of an instructor repeatedly choking out a student while the student taps franticly:

Is this common? I can't imagine anyone doing this where I train.

That is pretty dickish. Why is a BJJ instructor called 'Sensei'?

WTF? He is an asshole.
And though he has technique, his transitions and passes are not as smooth and solid as I have seen them by good purples or browns. He is musceling his moves! He shouldn't need to be doing this against a blue. (Not saying he is not skilled but I don't get it). Oh did I mentioned he is an asshole? And a dick?

The student could have been an asshat himself? Or you got a BJJ instructor being a douche cause he can.

Anyone know the story behind this, is it some kind of hazing?

It's not like the guy had to stay on the mats, and the instructor only held on the chokes, not the locks (I don't know about the last one though...).

...His transitions and passes looked pretty good to me, and he was muscling stuff when stuff needed to be muscled.

One, brazil is fucking weird.

Two, he was going hard with the blue belt. Maybe it was a test or something, maybe the instructor just wanted a good workout. Maybe the blue belt did some dickish **** during class to deserve getting WTFPWNT. We just don't know.

But yeah, his technique looked great to me...

Also, when my instructor gets his blackbelt, I told him I'm going to call him Sensei. Just for lulz.

I don't know about you, but where I trained, BB don't need to muscle any blue belt or the new purples. After that they might muscle a bit but not like that. The guys just transition so slick and smooth it is as if they are rolling on a stability ball.
And I said, he has technique but still he muscles a lot.

And like i said, you don't know the situation.

Everyone has different games, maybe he was working a newer game. Maybe he just likes to muscle people around.

Like i said, i didn't see all this "muscling" this guy around, either.

The BB's name is Luciano Soares (http://www.dominiojiujitsu.com.br/index.php?pg=sensei.php), not Cleber Luciano. The info at the preceding link says that Soares is a black belt in BJJ/brown in Judo, and that he is under Edson Carvalho (http://www.edsoncarvalho.com/)'s organization. There's a really good poster here, Jason Scully, who trains with Carvalho maybe he can shed some light on this?

It wouldn't be strange to call our bjj instructors sensei, but then again, it started as a sport judo club, and all instructors (jui-jitsu or otherwise) are judo black belts.

Yeah, that guy is a dick. Not because of choking out his students, but because of the choice of workout music. You know, if that was playing I would want to choke someone out too.

This video of a BJJ blackbelt and one of his students rolling, has popped up in the last couple of days and has been creating a bit of a stir.

I dont know enough about BJJ etiquette to comment so I'll leave it to you guys.

Thoughts ?
