I find it hard to believe that a thing like this could exist now or ever but when i googled the term a number of people seem to be offering it

I think you can guess what the consensus is. LOL at getting this "black belt" with 12 lessons from a nobody.

I googled Ted Gambordella and his website is called blackbeltinabox.com

yes, seriously.

"Dr." Ted really has that 1950s look and seems to be a TMAist not a MMA guy. Watch his "amazing" Ki video where he takes standard punches that any decent MT or Systema beginner could handle, then does the Shaolin style blade to kneck bendy trick thingy.

The guy is in amazing shape for his age though.

I have a feeling that the people who buy blackbelts via mail are the same people who buy stuff like penis-enlargment medicine...there will always be idiots in need of some validation.

Does anybody out there know of anyone who both claims to have a blackbelt in MMA AND can fight really well?

First person to find one gets a really satisfying pat on the back from me.

Maybe we should start a thread that says MMA Black Belts do not exist. In the body we can have a clear explanation of why they do not. Everyone can copy paste and add to the thread daily. This way when sombody researches mma blackbelts it will pop up. Instead of having to investigate a fraud it could be a move toward preventitive maitenence.

I'm pretty sure they exist. You just posted a video of two of them sparring.

Really though, they don't even look like they're trying.

If you really want to, come down to Seattle and I'll sell you a black belt in MMA, or I'll even do it over the internet.

They exist. It is the Mcdojoization of MMA. I have seen three cases now including this one. One was a 3rd degree female in MMA.

The problem lies in the fact that there are fight records to disprove dumb claims.

Not quite an accurate comparison, but I get what you're saying. If a black belt indicates a relative mastery of the system, all MMA black belts should be able to compete at a professional level. The two in the video don't even look like they're ready for amateur competition.

Still, they are sparring with punches to the face, and judging by all the gear, they're supposed to be going with hard contact. That's more than a lot of black belts in other systems can say.

ted gambordella is also the author of "Fight for Your Life!: The Secrets of Street Fighting" and "100 Deadliest Karate Moves". both from the most reputable publisher in the world: paladin press.

Yeah, there are a few I've seen as well with legit records. One is in Canada and there is another one who is a Tiger Schulmann black belt, Laura D'Auguste:

In that example, the problem is the fact that she's a damn good fighter and people will take that to believe that a black belt in MMA will make them badass as well. And of course the less than reputable gyms (and probably some of the reputable ones) will bank on it.

How many degrees of female are there? If there are ten, I'm not sure I want to meet one who is only a 3rd degree. I think there's a thread somewhere in LLL where everybody is trying to identify all the tenth degree females though.
