Welcome to Bullshido. Also second request for info on Choi Kwang Do (which sounds like it could be a tasty beef-with-broccoli dish).

Choi Kwang Do

Choi Kwang Do was developed by Grandmaster Kwang Jo Choi between 1978 and 1987 and has proven to be the most effective martial arts system in the world. Choi Kwang Doís natural, easy-to-learn, sequential movements maximize your bodyís force-producing capabilities, but more importantly, they increase opportunities to enhance your health. Itís a unique program based on modern scientific principles from human anatomy, physiology (the branch of biological sciences dealing with the functioning of organisms), psychology (the science of mental life), kinesiology (the branch of physiology that studies mechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement), neurophysiology (the branch of neuroscience that studies the physiology of the nervous system) and biomechanics (human movement science).

Choi Kwang Do is not designed for competition and does not follow the intensity of sports training. The system is meant for all individuals who want to learn real-life, practical self-defense skills and achieve a greater level of health and well-being, not people solely interested in winning trophies.

And I take it you all know what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is lol

Hey Royston, welcome to BS :)

So when did you start up CKD and BJJ and what led you to choose that combination?

I think Rob T is from around your area: BJJ purple that posts on here as well as EFN etc.

As you're in the UK, you might be interested in joining the throwdown group (http://groups.google.com/group/bullshidoukthrowdowns), which aims to keep people updated on UK throwdowns (basically an open mat, if you're unfamiliar with the term). Last one was in Oxford (http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=57370) - next one should be in Belfast (http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1658933#post1658933), either 14th or 21st June.

Also, if you're just starting in BJJ, I'd recommend the following threads:

In a nut shell,

Started CKD because I work with one of the local instructors lol. I also liked the look its stand up and close rang work. But due to the lack of ground work in CKD I decided to improve my range and start BJJ aswell. By this I hope to have a good stand up and ground game (fingers crossed)...

Hi Rob, Nice to hear from you dude...

I'm currently in Pedro Bessa in Port Talbot learning under Kevin, I think you might know him as well as Adrian and Jason as they used to go to GB Swansea....

RobT

Yeah man, they used to train with us. Kind of a shame that Kev left but hey. Hope you're enjoying and training well? Will you be at the Welsh Open?

RobT
3/27/2008 11:34am,
I'll just be there to coach the guys from GB Swansea, not competing myself unfortunately as I have torn a muscle.

Typical stuff, I did two weeks of competition sparring 6 days each week, no problem. Then one light roll for 5 mins during a class I was teaching and I tore something!!!
